Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa Stats: Reds Finally Break Premier League Losing Streak as Salah Reaches 250 Goals
Liverpool concluded a four-match losing streak in the Premier League with a well-deserved win against Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday evening. Mohamed Salah opened the scoring by taking advantage of a significant error from Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez during first-half injury time, followed by Ryan Gravenberch’s deflected shot just before the hour mark, securing a 2-0 victory.
This result propels Arne Slot’s team back into the top four, leaving them seven points behind the league leaders, Arsenal.
Giorgi Mamardashvili 7
Made solid saves from long-range efforts by Cash and Rogers in the first half and observed the latter hit the post. Had a comfortable second half.
Conor Bradley 7
Faced a tough challenge against the tenacious McGinn, but his quick recovery speed helped him avoid several potential issues, particularly with a strong challenge on Guessand in the second half.
Ibrahima Konate 6
Started solidly but nearly gave Villa a chance with some careless defending in his own area. No errors in the second half.
Virgil van Dijk 7
Made a crucial block to deny Guessand and assisted in pushing Liverpool forward. Provided cover when Villa attempted to find a way back into the match.
Andy Robertson 7
Displayed a reliable performance down the left flank, attempted to advance when possible, and took set-pieces. May have regained his status as first-choice.
Ryan Gravenberch 8
Demonstrated his importance during his injury absence with a lively performance, covering significant ground in midfield and filling in gaps. His willingness to shoot led to the deflected second goal.
Alexis Mac Allister 7
Showed increased mobility and sharpness compared to recent matches, utilized the ball effectively, and had an effort blocked by Konsa before assisting Gravenberch for the second goal.
Mohamed Salah 8
Dominated Digne before the break but was occasionally hindered by poor touches or decisions until a fine finish for the opportunistic opener ignited a strong second-half performance.
Dominik Szoboszlai 9
In the number 10 position, he effectively led the press and was crucial in much of the attacking movements. He had a free-kick saved but should have scored after intercepting Torres, which was the only downside to an otherwise excellent performance.
Cody Gakpo 7
He overcame a sluggish start to begin causing issues by cutting inside and won a free-kick in the first half. As the game progressed, he maintained possession wisely and displayed good physicality.
Hugo Ekitike 6
For the majority of the first half, he seemed to be on a different wavelength than his teammates. However, he became more involved afterward and showed some nice touches. He was substituted.
SUBS
Florian Wirtz (for Ekitike 76) 6
He was utilized as a false nine during the final stages of the match.
