Odegaard injury return date statement as Arsenal captain shares alarming update…
Odegaard provides an update on his injury return date as Arsenal captain shares concerning news.
Arsenal’s captain, Martin Odegaard, is currently out of action due to a knee injury, and he has offered insights into his recovery process.
The Arsenal midfielder indicated that his return could be ‘swift’ if his recovery continues to progress ‘really well’ following the team’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid.
However, the Gunners’ captain refrained from specifying a return date due to the ongoing uncertainty regarding his healing. Odegaard incurred the injury during the match against West Ham United and was later ruled out of Norway’s international matches.
The 26-year-old has sustained damage to the medial collateral ligament in his left knee, with Mikel Arteta previously confirming that his key player would be out for several weeks. The former Real Madrid playmaker is expected to remain unavailable until after the international break in November.
This timeline could potentially allow him to be in contention for the north London derby against Tottenham on November 23.
Odegaard has now spoken about his fitness challenges. The midfielder appears optimistic about his rehabilitation progress so far but remains cautious about his advancement.
The creative player anticipates providing a more concrete update once he resumes training on the field. This is partly due to the nature of the injury.
“It’s challenging to establish a return date with this kind of injury because, particularly since it’s my left leg, a lot depends on how things go when I start getting back on the pitch,” Odegaard mentioned in his programme notes.
“Sometimes it can be quite painful when you begin passing the ball and shooting with that leg, so it’s really difficult to predict a date. All I can say is that I’m making good progress at the moment.
I believe we will have more clarity when I start returning to the training pitches, and we’ll see how that goes. If that goes really well, then it could be quick.
The captain believes he has faced unfortunate luck with fitness issues throughout the season. Odegaard has already had to miss matches due to a shoulder injury.
“It’s a lot of hard work and long days in recovery, but that’s what you strive for, and I feel like it’s progressing well so far,” the Norwegian stated. “I feel like I’ve encountered some bad luck a few times this season.
“It was a knee-to-knee collision in the West Ham match, and at that moment, I wasn’t sure if it was serious or not because those can be quite painful, but usually, you can shake it off. That’s why I attempted to continue playing, to see if it would improve.
“I was optimistic it was just a minor injury that would heal in a few minutes. However, it didn’t improve, and I sensed something was amiss, so ultimately it was wiser to come off.
Once we got inside, the medical staff examined it thoroughly. When the adrenaline subsided and it calmed down a bit, it became quite painful.
On the field, Odegaard’s Arsenal achieved a 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League at the Emirates Stadium.
Gabriel Martinelli had a goal disallowed for offside before fellow countryman Gabriel Magalhaes scored early in the second half.
Following that, three goals were netted within six minutes, as Martinelli’s goal was succeeded by a double from Viktor Gyokeres.
“I’m thrilled as he truly deserved it,” Arteta remarked about the Swede.
“The effort he contributes to the team is exceptional. We appreciate many aspects of his contributions, and it was the biggest smile on his face today, along with his teammates.
Hopefully, this marks the beginning of some wonderful sequences.
