Mikel Arteta provides a positive Arsenal Team News update, highlighting a significant boost related to Timber.
Arsenal is gearing up to face Luton Town in the Premier League following a resilient 0-0 draw against Manchester City.
During the match at the Etihad, Bukayo Saka was substituted in the second half, and Gabriel Martinelli marked his comeback from injury.
Arteta has now revealed the latest team news concerning the Gunners and their key attacking pair.
Arsenal have frequently missed out on key opportunities in the past to remain in title contention, particularly last season, by failing to capitalize on chances to take points from their title rivals towards the end of the season. Although their goalless draw against the reigning champions wasn’t the most exciting match, it did show a shift in mentality from the Gunners as they didn’t back down and allowed Pep Guardiola’s team to defeat them, enabling them to maintain their second position in the Premier League. This has significantly increased their chances of winning the league by preventing City from overtaking them.
Looking ahead to upcoming matches against Luton and Brighton, Arteta will require a full squad at his disposal. He has provided a positive update on squad depth before Luton’s visit to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening, with a boost for Gabriel Martinelli.
Mikel Arteta’s Latest Update on Arsenal’s Injury News
The Gunners are in need of their players more than ever for a title challenge
In a statement on Tuesday afternoon prior to this week’s two matches, Arteta confirmed that Bukayo Saka is fit to play despite being substituted on Sunday, with other options also making a return to the team.
He mentioned about Saka: “He’s doing well. We haven’t trained, just recovered. We have a short light session today to prepare for the game and we’ll assess if he’s ready to start or not.”
Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli’s return was discussed with the Gunners boss after his cameo at the Etihad Stadium. Arteta confirmed that the Brazilian would feature against the Hatters after recovering from a foot injury sustained against Sheffield United.
Arteta added: “He’s ready because he was available to play against a tough opponent. He definitely is today. We will train later and check on his condition tomorrow.”
Jurrien Timber Closing in on Arsenal Return
The former Ajax player has been sidelined for the entire Premier League season due to an ACL injury.
Apart from his star attackers, Arteta understands the importance of having a deep squad when challenging for a league title. This was addressed in the summer with signings like Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, and David Raya joining the club in their quest for the Premier League title.
Arteta believes that the best way to develop players like Thomas Partey, Reiss Nelson, and others is by giving them playing time in matches, as long as they are deemed fit – including Jurrien Timber.
Arteta has provided an update on Timber’s condition, indicating that he will soon be returning to action after missing the entire season due to a knee injury. This news comes as a significant boost for the Gunners, as they will need everyone’s contribution moving forward.
Arteta emphasized the importance of players feeling involved and earning their playing time through training and dedication.
Regarding Timber specifically, Arteta mentioned that he is progressing well and has resumed training. While there is still one final step to be taken, Arteta expressed optimism that Timber has a good chance of playing before the season concludes.
