Report: Liverpool may now acquire a towering Brazilian talent for less than £5m as a new release clause has surfaced.

Liverpool has significantly revamped their squad this summer.

Arne Slot and Richard Hughes opted to invest over £450 million in new signings to enhance their team.

This is despite having clinched the Premier League title by a margin of 10 points last season.

While some transfers have proven beneficial, others still raise questions.

Nevertheless, this hasn’t deterred speculation about potential transfer targets for upcoming windows.

Liverpool could secure Brazilian goalkeeper Gabriel Menegon as a new release clause has come to light.

Liverpool has frequently been slow to capitalize on South American talent.

The Reds have often had to pay inflated prices for players they could have acquired for much less had they identified them earlier.

However, this does not appear to be the case now, as Liverpool shows interest in 16-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Gabriel Menegon.

A recent report from Brazilian source Radio Itatiaia indicates that the young goalkeeper has a release clause set at approximately £4.2 million.

This follows the renewal of his contract with Gremio.

Although the report mentions that there have been ‘no official offers’ for the goalkeeper, the existence of a release clause suggests that Liverpool could take action.

Currently, he measures 1.96m tall (6ft4in), which is quite impressive for someone who is only 16 years old.

Does Liverpool truly require another young goalkeeper?

During the summer transfer window of 2025-26, Liverpool signed Hungarian prospect Armin Pecsi.

The young goalkeeper has yet to make an appearance for the Anfield side, but at just 20 years old, it’s evident that this was a strategic move for the future.

Liverpool also has Vitezslav Jaros, who is presently on loan at Ajax, and given that he is of a similar age to Giorgi Mamardashvili, it seems the goalkeeper position is secured for years ahead.

While the addition of Menegon would certainly be thrilling, it seems like a redundant decision for Liverpool at this time, particularly given the wealth of talent they currently possess in goal.

At this point, it’s uncertain what the future holds, but based on the signings Slot has secured this season, it’s evident that he is always considering what lies ahead.
