Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal is on the verge of finalizing a loan-to-buy agreement for an ‘elite’ star, stating, ‘Here we go soon.’

According to GIVEMESPORT’s senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal is making significant progress in securing Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

The North London club is close to reaching an agreement for the arrival of the ‘elite’ Ecuadorian centre-back before the transfer deadline on Monday, with Hincapie expected to join on loan with an obligation to purchase.

Romano has indicated that the details regarding the fee structure are being finalized as the 23-year-old has expressed a desire to join Arsenal rather than their North London rivals, Tottenham.

The Leverkusen defender is anticipated to be Arsenal’s eighth signing of a hectic summer, following players such as Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze, and Viktor Gyokeres.

Hincapie is set to replace Jakub Kiwior, who is nearing a loan agreement with an obligation to buy from two-time Champions League winners Porto.

Romano shared on X that Arsenal is close to finalizing a loan agreement with an obligation to buy for Hincapie’s transfer:

Hincapie has a release clause valued at €60m (£52m), and Arsenal is reportedly working to negotiate a lower fee in their potential loan-to-buy deal with Leverkusen.

Typically, the Ecuadorian defender plays as a left centre-back but has also occasionally filled in at left-back during his four seasons in the Bundesliga.

Hincapie transferred to Leverkusen from Argentinian club CA Talleres in the summer of 2021 and has since made 166 appearances for the team, scoring seven goals.

He was part of the Bundesliga-winning squad for the 2023/24 season under manager Xabi Alonso and also contributed to Leverkusen’s German Cup victory in the same season.

Hincapie may soon join the ongoing summer exodus at Leverkusen, following players like Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Granit Xhaka, and Jonathan Tah out of the club.

Arsenal has invested more than £200 million in new players this summer, with Eze being the most recent addition, having joined in a reported £68 million transfer from Crystal Palace last week.
