Tottenham joins the race to sign a £43m successor for Son Heung-min, amidst links to Liverpool and Arsenal…
Tottenham joins the competition for a £43m Son Heung-min successor, with Liverpool and Arsenal also interested in the player.
The latest transfer news reveals that Nico Williams is now being considered as an option for Spurs, adding to the list of potential replacements for the club captain.
Despite Son Heung-min’s continued success in scoring goals for Tottenham, it is wise for the team to start looking for a younger replacement in the upcoming transfer windows.
Ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, Ange Postecoglou bolstered Tottenham’s attacking options by securing the services of Manor Solomon and Brennan Johnson.
Timo Werner was later brought in on loan from RB Leipzig in January, further strengthening the forward line alongside Son, Richarlison, and Dejan Kulusevski.
Son, who has been in scintillating form this season with 12 goals in 22 games, remains a key figure for Spurs. However, it would be wise for the club to start planning for the future post his tenure.
Tottenham has a history of struggling to adequately replace key players once they depart, leading to a significant impact on the team.
Postecoglou has already made strides in enhancing the squad depth by signing Radu Dragusin from Genoa recently.
Looking ahead, the manager is likely aiming to make more high-profile signings in the upcoming transfer window. In line with this, Tottenham has entered the race to secure the signature of Athletic Club’s Nico Williams, according to reports from journalist Dean Jones.
Arsenal and Liverpool have been closely monitoring the Spain international, with particular interest in his contract’s advantageous release clause. Despite his contract running until 2027, there is a tempting €50million (£43m) release clause that can be activated this summer, making him an attractive prospect for potential suitors.
In the current season, Williams has made a significant impact for his team, contributing five goals and 10 assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.
His performances have played a crucial role in their pursuit of a European spot, as they currently sit in fifth place in La Liga.
Additionally, Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge has also been linked as a potential attacking addition for Spurs.
After his proposed move to Brentford fell through, tentative talks were initiated for the 18-year-old to join Spurs in January, while remaining on loan in Belgium. However, the deal faced complications during his medical, allowing the Bees to seemingly hijack the move.
