Exclusive: Arsenal player likely to be benched for crucial match against Manchester United.

Arsenal analyst Charles Watts suggests that Mikel Arteta might make a significant decision regarding his lineup for the match against Manchester United this weekend.

In his latest exclusive column for CaughtOffside, Watts examined the performances of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Riccardo Calafiori at left-back during pre-season.

Watts appears to believe that Calafiori has slightly outperformed Lewis-Skelly in recent games, potentially leading to a surprising start for the Italy international in the away match against Man Utd.

Lewis-Skelly seemed to have secured the starting position after an impressive breakthrough season last year, but some fluctuations in form were likely to occur.

The 18-year-old is undoubtedly a significant talent with a promising future, yet Calafiori has also demonstrated his capabilities and could play a crucial role if he can steer clear of the injury issues that plagued his previous season.

Riccardo Calafiori or Myles Lewis-Skelly for the match against Manchester United?

While discussing Arteta’s potential lineup for this weekend, Watts remarked: “I think the choice of who starts at full-back this weekend will be intriguing for Arsenal. There is genuine competition for those spots.

“Riccardo Calafiori has looked impressive whenever he’s been on the field. I really appreciated his performance last weekend, and if he’s considered fully fit, I believe he might be chosen at left-back over Myles Lewis-Skelly.

“It’s a difficult decision, but Lewis-Skelly hasn’t appeared at his best this summer, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Arteta opts for the Italian to counter the threat posed by Bryan Mbeumo and also create issues at the other end.”

Can Arsenal secure a victory away against United?

Last season, Arsenal outperformed United, finishing in 2nd place while the Red Devils fell to 15th.

However, Ruben Amorim has now had additional time to instill his strategies and make new acquisitions, so MUFC is expected to show improvement this season.

Old Trafford has not been the most favorable venue for Arsenal over the years, making it likely that this is not the beginning most of their supporters would have hoped for.
