Sunderland is now pursuing an “excellent” alternative to Petrovic after the departure of Adingra.

Following the announcement of Simon Adingra’s arrival, which adds yet another remarkable talent to their squad, Sunderland is reportedly focusing on acquiring an experienced goalkeeper this summer.

Adingra: Sunderland’s project is “truly thrilling”.

If you were to ask even the most hopeful Sunderland supporter if they anticipated the Black Cats to make significant investments this summer, the likely response would be a definitive no.

However, those at the Stadium of Light have entered the Premier League with the intention of making a statement, aiming to be the first of six promoted teams to avoid relegation on their first attempt.

The addition of Adingra is expected to play a crucial role in achieving that goal.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion winger expressed his excitement on Sunderland’s official website after finalizing a move valued at an initial £20.5m, plus add-ons: “I’m thrilled to be here, and I can’t wait to begin.

The Club and the project are incredibly exciting.

“I spoke with everyone, and their enthusiasm for me made the decision straightforward – I wanted to be part of Sunderland’s future.

Playing in the Premier League has been a dream of mine since childhood, so to continue that journey is amazing.

There’s a significant challenge ahead – we’ll be up against top players and formidable opponents – but I’m prepared for it.”

After losing his starting position under Fabian Hurzler at Brighton last season, some might quickly overlook Adingra’s talent, but he will be eager to provide some timely reminders in the upcoming season.

While the winger’s signing is impressive, the Black Cats are not finished in the summer transfer market. Current reports indicate that they are now looking for a new goalkeeper.

Sunderland enters the competition to acquire £20m Ramsdale

According to GiveMeSport, Sunderland has now entered the competition to sign Aaron Ramsdale, who has requested to leave relegated Southampton this summer. The goalkeeper reportedly has a release clause set at just £20m following the Saints’ relegation, providing those in Wearside the chance to make a move if they wish.

Acquiring an upgrade over current No.1 Anthony Patterson has been on Sunderland’s agenda all summer. Reports even suggested that the Black Cats were nearing an agreement to sign Djordje Petrovic earlier this month. However, with that deal still pending, the opportunity has arisen for Ramsdale to offer Regis Le Bris a new option.

It’s a challenging decision for Sunderland.

While Petrovic had a remarkable season on loan at Strasbourg, who finished as high as eighth in Ligue 1, Ramsdale was frequently striving to assist Southampton in avoiding significant embarrassment. The statistics reflect this in various ways.

Rightly commended as “excellent” by Joe Hart at St Mary’s last season, Ramsdale could finally break his cycle of disappointing relegations by moving from Southampton to Sunderland this summer.
