Virgil van Dijk has finally broken his silence regarding Arne Slot’s potential appointment as Liverpool’s new manager.

The Reds are currently in the final stages of negotiations with Feyenoord to secure Slot’s services, and Van Dijk has publicly expressed his support for the Dutchman.

With an agreement expected to be reached soon, the 45-year-old is set to take over from Jurgen Klopp next month. Despite Liverpool’s recent defeat to Everton, Van Dijk remains optimistic about Slot’s abilities and believes he is an excellent choice for the club.

In an interview with ViaPlay, the Liverpool captain shared his thoughts on the matter.

After Liverpool’s loss to Everton, Van Dijk expressed his views to ViaPlay.

He mentioned, “I believe Slot is among the top Dutch coaches currently. His style of play and philosophy could suit Liverpool well.

However, reports suggest that a deal is far from being finalized. We will wait and see. Our focus is on the upcoming season, which is still a long way ahead.”

Liverpool’s initial bid of approximately £7.7 million with performance-related add-ons was rejected by Feyenoord last Wednesday.

Reports suggest that the club initially valued their opening bid at £6m upfront plus £1.7m in potential bonuses, but the Dutch outfit is pushing for a total package value closer to £8.5m.

Liverpool is also in the process of replacing several members of Klopp’s outgoing backroom staff, with Slot looking to bring in his own team.

Slot is set to bring his assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff and head of performance Ruben Peeters to Liverpool, taking over from Andreas Schlumberger. However, John de Wolf, Slot’s assistant trainer, is expected to stay in Holland after recently extending his contract at De Kuip.

In addition, Liverpool will have to find replacements for Pepijn Lijnders, goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, Peter Krawietz, fitness chief Andreas Kornmayer, and nutritionist Mona Nemmer, among others.

Meanwhile, negotiations for Slot’s contract with Liverpool are currently underway by Rafaela Pimenta, his agent. In the upcoming days, face-to-face discussions between Liverpool and Feyenoord are anticipated.

Liverpool’s remaining fixtures for this season include four games, consisting of away matches against West Ham and Aston Villa, as well as home games against Tottenham and Wolves.

It is believed that Klopp has not actively participated in the quest for his successor, as Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes have taken charge of the process.
