Viktor Gyokeres has issued a reminder to Arsenal regarding his £85m transfer potential, hinting at a possible exit from Sporting CP.
Gyokeres’ recent performances have drawn attention from top clubs, including Arsenal. His departure from Sporting CP seems increasingly likely based on recent developments.
Arsenal is actively seeking to bolster their attacking options this summer, and the Swedish forward is consistently demonstrating his value as a potential acquisition.
Gyokeres has been making a compelling case for why Arsenal should pursue him this summer.
The club is focused on securing a new striker, having previously shown interest in Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, who ultimately chose to stay with his current team.
In addition to Sesko, Arsenal has set its sights on Gyokeres, who has attracted interest from several top-tier clubs worldwide.
His recent performance, scoring two goals in Sporting CP’s 6-1 victory over Nacional, further solidifies his appeal.
He completed the entire 90 minutes, scored two goals, and was unlucky not to add a third when his shot struck the crossbar in the closing moments.
After the victory in Madeira, Gyokeres shared a photo on Instagram with the caption: “Let’s go,” accompanied by a Lion emoji, reflecting the team’s nickname.
Before the season commenced, Gyokeres was unable to participate in Sporting’s initial two pre-season matches against Union Saint-Gilloise and Sevilla due to knee surgery he underwent earlier in the summer.
He also played in the Lions’ 3-1 victory over Rio Ave in the season opener, where he scored his first goal.
When previously questioned about his future, the striker expressed his enjoyment of playing under Ruben Amorim.
“Ruben Amorim is an excellent coach; I wouldn’t mind if he stayed (laughs),” Gyokeres remarked in early May. “I’ve had many coaches, but Ruben Amorim was instrumental in bringing me here; he has played a significant role in my career.
“Thank you, Sporting fans, see you soon. It’s football; I can’t make any promises; I have a contract, and I won’t be upset if I leave – I’m very happy here, but we’ll see what unfolds. We can’t predict much, but we’ll find out what next year holds.”
Amorim was also asked about Gyokeres’ current situation, as he remains a target for multiple clubs.
He stated, “We have no control over the transfer market. If players who significantly contributed last season were to depart, it would result in substantial financial gains for us.
“I’m not concerned in the slightest. This year, we are competing in the Champions League and aim to reclaim the title.
Our focus is sharp, but we understand that anything can occur before the transfer window closes.” Gyokeres has a release clause set at £85 million (€100 million).
