Three Liverpool players are set to leave the club this summer, with one being a favorite of Jurgen Klopp…
Three Liverpool players are scheduled to depart from the club this week, marking the end of their contracts on June 30.
These players, who played significant roles under former manager Jurgen Klopp, will be bidding farewell as the Arne Slot era begins.
Liverpool transfer news: The club is preparing to bid farewell to a number of seasoned players this week.
Liverpool is gearing up to say goodbye to several players this week as their contracts officially expire on June 30.
The Jurgen Klopp era has concluded with Arne Slot taking over, but the trio of players leaving the club this week were key figures under the former German manager.
This also opens up three spots in Slot’s squad that can be filled, whether through new signings or promoting youth – an opportunity for some changes.
As the contract deadline of June 30 approaches, we have decided to take a closer look at the three players who will be departing Liverpool this week.
- Joel Matip
Joel Matip joined the team on a free transfer in 2016 and has been a valuable player, appearing in over 200 matches.
He played a crucial role in the team’s success, including starting in the Champions League final victory against Spurs in 2019.
Despite being a free agent now, the 32-year-old is recovering from a knee injury and is preparing to return to pre-season training.
With his experience and skills, he should have no trouble finding a new starting position in Europe as he embarks on the next phase of his career.
- Thiago
Thiago, a highly skilled technician, joined Anfield with a reputation as a talented midfielder, renowned for his exceptional abilities and flair on the field.
Unfortunately, his career was plagued by frequent injuries, resulting in only 98 appearances over the course of four seasons. Nevertheless, we were fortunate enough to witness some remarkable moments.
His memorable goal against Porto, his outstanding performance in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, and his dominant display against Man United are all standout moments.
However, a hip injury sustained towards the end of the previous season continued to affect him in the following season, limiting his playing time to just five minutes.
Hopefully, he can recover his fitness and rediscover his form as he approaches the twilight of his career.
- Adrian
Adrian, the backup goalkeeper, patiently waited for his chance behind Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher, making 26 appearances for Liverpool.
He conceded 36 goals and kept seven clean sheets, but his mistake in the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid will be remembered by fans.
His error led to Atletico Madrid scoring, ultimately costing Liverpool the match. Despite winning the Premier League title shortly after, the defeat was a significant setback.
Adrian is now rumored to be returning to former club Real Betis, where he may finally get some playing time after not featuring since August 2022.
