Fabrizio Romano discusses the reasons behind Mohamed Salah’s delay in signing a new contract with Liverpool.

Despite having an impressive 2024/25 season, the future of Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah remains in question.

The 32-year-old is nearing the end of his contract at Anfield, which allows him to negotiate with clubs outside of England for a potential pre-agreement.

Salah is a beloved figure among the fans and has consistently expressed his desire to remain at Liverpool.

Recently, he has been linked to a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain; however, Romano clarifies that no discussions have occurred between Salah and the French club.

According to the transfer expert, while Liverpool is in communication with Salah’s agent, there has been no significant progress.

He emphasizes that the duration of the contract is not the primary concern; rather, the main issue revolves around the financial aspects and the timing of the agreement.

Both Salah and Liverpool share a strong mutual respect and affection, but given his age, the club is cautious about offering a substantial financial package, despite his continued high-level performance.

The likelihood of Salah remaining at Liverpool appears strong. A compromise between the two parties is essential, and it seems achievable.

Salah aims to stay, win more trophies, and solidify his status as a club legend.

He reportedly is open to signing a new one-year contract.

Additionally, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold are also facing contract expirations at the end of the season.

Van Dijk seems at ease with his situation, acknowledging that discussions about an extension have occurred, while Alexander-Arnold’s situation is more complex, given his status as a homegrown talent with promising years ahead.

The circumstances surrounding Alexander-Arnold are somewhat complex.

As a locally developed talent, his prime years are still ahead of him.

However, he has frequently been associated with a transfer to Real Madrid, making the possibility of his departure a consideration that cannot be entirely dismissed.
