The Premier League has issued a statement regarding the disallowed goal by Arsenal’s Kai Havertz following their match against Aston Villa.

Arsenal’s Kai Havertz had a goal disallowed, prompting the Premier League to release a statement regarding the VAR ruling.

Following the disallowed goal by Kai Havertz, the Premier League has released a statement addressing the VAR situation concerning Arsenal.

Havertz’s second goal was controversially ruled out, resulting in Arsenal settling for a draw at the Emirates Stadium.

The Premier League’s Match Centre confirmed that the goal was disallowed due to a handball infraction after Arsenal’s potential winning goal was negated.

The incident occurred when Mikel Merino’s volley struck the ground and deflected off Havertz into the net, past a helpless Emi Martinez.

However, VAR intervened, leading to the goal being disallowed.

Arsenal had initially taken a two-goal lead, with Gabriel Martinelli scoring just before halftime and Havertz doubling the advantage shortly after the break.

The team appeared poised to close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

However, Youri Tielemans pulled one back for Villa in the 60th minute, and Ollie Watkins equalized shortly thereafter with a shot that hit the underside of the crossbar.

Arsenal continued to press for a third goal, believing they had scored when a shot from Martinelli deflected off Havertz’s arm.

According to FA regulations, a goal can be disallowed for handball if it is scored directly from a player’s arm or hand, regardless of intent, or if it follows immediately after the player has handled the ball.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Premier League Match Centre noted: “The Arsenal goal was awarded on-field.

The VAR determined that the ball made contact with Havertz’s arm just before it crossed the line and recommended that the goal be disallowed.”

The decision was met with boos from the crowd at the Emirates Stadium. Despite this, Arsenal had opportunities to find a winning goal, with Leandro Trossard hitting the post, but they ultimately could not secure the victory.

In the fifth minute of added time, the Belgian player surged forward but his shot narrowly missed the far post.

Consequently, Arsenal was unable to reduce Liverpool’s advantage at the top of the standings, remaining six points behind as they prepare for next weekend’s match against Wolves at Molineux.
