Gary Neville points out the Liverpool player who excelled during the game against Wolves.

Liverpool secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Wolves on Saturday, a match that many would prefer to forget.

The Reds entered the game with strong momentum, having achieved three consecutive wins following a defeat to Nottingham Forest.

However, their early performance at Molineux was far from impressive.

Liverpool struggled with ball control, lacked intensity in their pressing, and appeared sluggish when attempting to counterattack.

Despite this underwhelming display, under the management of Arne Slot, Liverpool currently sits at the top of the Premier League.

Goals from Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah contributed to this position, but Gary Neville pointed out that neither player was the standout performer for Liverpool on that day.

In reality, both goal scorers had inconsistent performances during the match in the West Midlands.

Salah, in particular, seemed off his game, failing to find his rhythm and squandering several promising opportunities.

While Konate did score a commendable goal—his first in the Premier League—he later made a critical error that allowed Wolves to equalize.

During his commentary on Sky Sports, Neville criticized Konate for his role in enabling Rayan Ait Nouri to score.

However, when asked to name his man of the match as the game neared its conclusion, the Manchester United icon praised Ryan Gravenberch.

Gravenberch has been in excellent form recently, and in Neville’s opinion, he was the best player on the field against Wolves.

The pundit remarked, “In my opinion, Gravenberch has been the standout player. He is currently in excellent form and has performed well once again. Therefore, he deserves the recognition.”

Did Ryan Gravenberch merit the man of the match title?

As indicated by Neville’s somewhat understated acknowledgment of Gravenberch as his man of the match, there were few exceptional performances from either team at Molineux.

However, we would contend that Diogo Jota was more deserving of the accolade over Liverpool’s No.38.

Jota played a crucial role in the opening goal, delivering a superb left-footed cross to Konate. He also won the penalty that Salah converted to secure the victory.

Consequently, we believe Jota was Liverpool’s top performer on that occasion.

Gravenberch was likely a close second, as the Dutch midfielder effectively managed the center of the pitch for the Reds.

Nevertheless, we have certainly witnessed stronger performances from him in recent matches.
