Sunderland’s failed loan bid for Manchester United’s rising star Amad Diallo has been clarified by director Kristjaan Speakman. Despite the club’s efforts to secure his services in January, the young winger continues to be overlooked by manager Erik ten Hag.

Amad had a successful loan spell at Sunderland last season, where he made 42 appearances and scored 14 goals in the Championship.

This helped the Black Cats reach the play-offs. However, despite his impressive performances, he has struggled to secure a place in Ten Hag’s plans at his parent club.

He has only managed to make one appearance in the Premier League, playing a total of 36 minutes. Sunderland has expressed their desire to bring him back to the Stadium of Light, but unfortunately, there are external factors beyond their control that have prevented this.

The technical director of Sunderland stated that Amad was one of their top targets, but the January transfer market has been relatively quiet, making it challenging to make significant moves.

There has been a decrease in the number of transactions, and the main factor determining player availability is whether they are permanently or temporarily unavailable.

It reached a point where the player in question was not available and has not joined any other team. We continued to wait for him as long as possible, although in hindsight, this may have hindered our ability to sign another player earlier. However, we believed it was a necessary choice and we were comfortable with it.

Amad’s arrival at United in 2021 was met with great excitement, as the club invested a substantial amount of £37m ($47m) in the talented 18-year-old. However, his appearances for the club have been limited, with only 10 senior games under his belt, and just four of those in the Premier League.

Amad’s involvement in the upcoming match against West Ham on Sunday is still uncertain. Although he was on the bench during the game against Wolves, he was completely absent from the squad in the previous match against Tottenham.
