Sunderland is initiating its preparations for the upcoming January transfer window, with Kristjaan Speakman outlining the club’s strategy.

In anticipation of the January transfer window, Sunderland is commencing its preparations, guided by Kristjaan Speakman’s outlined strategy.

Speakman indicated that the club is already focusing on potential enhancements to the squad for the winter transfer period.

He noted that while the substantial transfer of Jack Clarke to Ipswich Town does not automatically lead to increased spending, the club remains committed to being proactive in the market, reflecting the management’s readiness to invest.

“We will shift our focus to January, monitoring both our players’ development and those we are interested in acquiring,” Speakman stated.

“As we approach January, we will evaluate our needs and make decisions aimed at further improving the team.”

He emphasized that the club has consistently invested in every transfer window, citing the acquisition of Milan prior to any bids for Clarke as an example of their forward-thinking approach.

“These decisions are interconnected in the broader context of ensuring we are well-positioned.

We will continue to seek investment opportunities. It is not necessary to spend simply because there is a perception of available funds.

We can enhance the team through strategic planning and external recruitment. Our position in January remains uncertain, but we will conduct our usual reviews and player assessments leading up to that time to identify areas for improvement.

Our actions in the market will depend on these evaluations, which may involve financial expenditure or securing talented players like Alan Browne on a free transfer. This is the balance we strive to achieve.”

“We consistently explore the market for opportunities, but ultimately, we have a solid group in place.”

Our primary focus is to concentrate on the players currently within our organization rather than those who are not.

Both Regis and I are dedicated to maintaining a competitive squad size, ensuring that every player feels they have the opportunity to participate on the field.

It is important to avoid expanding the squad excessively. We have players capable of covering two or three positions, and we believe we have sufficient talent within our squad and U21s to step in as needed.

Our approach is divided into two phases: the first 21 games leading up to the January transfer window, and we are confident that we have struck the right balance to navigate this period successfully.
