Saudi Arabia’s governor addresses future prospects amid Liverpool takeover speculation.

Amidst the rumors regarding the Liverpool takeover, the governor of Saudi Arabia discusses potential future developments.

The chairman of Newcastle United has commented on the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) strategy.

The governor of the PIF has stated that they will be reducing their foreign investment activities.

Since acquiring Newcastle United in October 2021, the PIF has been linked to ambitions for larger acquisitions.

Recent reports from The Independent suggest that Liverpool is among the clubs being considered, alongside Premier League competitors Chelsea and Spanish powerhouse Barcelona.

In addition to Newcastle, the PIF has also invested in LIV Golf. However, according to governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who also serves as Newcastle’s chairman, the focus will now shift towards initiatives within the Middle East.

During his remarks at the Future Investment Initiative conference in Riyadh, as reported by the Financial Times, he noted, “Our international investments have grown from 2 percent to 30 percent. Our goal now is to reduce that to between 18 and 20 percent.”

Liverpool has been under the ownership of Fenway Sports Group (FSG) since 2010.

Under their leadership, the club has achieved significant success, winning eight major trophies, including the Champions League and Premier League.

Anfield’s capacity has been expanded to 61,276, and £50 million has been invested in the AXA Training Centre.

In 2022, it was revealed that FSG had put Liverpool up for sale, seeking a partial sale.

Various parties, including those from Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern regions, were rumored to be interested before American firm Dynasty Equity acquired a minority stake valued between £82 million and £164 million.
