Rio Ferdinand is seeking answers from the officials responsible for the Arsenal vs Chelsea match, as he was left dumbfounded by a decision that defied belief.

Rio Ferdinand has expressed his desire for officials from Arsenal and Chelsea to provide an explanation for a decision that left him astonished.

During the Premier League match between the two teams on Tuesday night, Arsenal emerged victorious, but there was a particular moment that raised controversy.

Mikel Arteta’s side was leading by only one goal when Nicolas Jackson, a player from Chelsea, made a challenge on Takehiro Tomiyasu’s shins that appeared to be high. Surprisingly, the Senegal striker escaped punishment, as not even a yellow card was shown.

Arsenal comfortably secured a win over Chelsea in the Premier League on Tuesday evening, although there was a particular incident that sparked controversy. Mikel Arteta’s team was leading by just one goal when the incident occurred.

Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United star, expressed his bewilderment at the decision not to send off Nicolas Jackson during Chelsea’s defeat at Arsenal.

Merely nine minutes into the game, with the score standing at 1-0 in favor of the Gunners, Jackson seemed to make a high challenge on Takehiro Tomiyasu’s shins. Surprisingly, the Senegal striker escaped punishment, as not even a yellow card was shown to him.

The referee’s decision, made by Simon Hooper, had minimal impact on the outcome of the match. In the second half, Arsenal scored four goals within 20 minutes, with Ben White and Kai Havertz each contributing two goals. This dominant performance allowed Arsenal to secure a 5-0 victory after Leandro Trossard’s early goal.

However, during halftime, there were concerns about whether Chelsea could have benefited from Jackson’s continued involvement. Ferdinand, analyzing the incident in the TNT Sports Studio, was left speechless.

“We were all astonished that VAR did not review it,” expressed the 45-year-old. “We couldn’t believe it. Throughout this season, we have witnessed numerous instances that were just as bad, if not worse than this one.

“It was a reckless challenge in my opinion. I would appreciate it if they could come and explain their decision to me, please.”

Jackson, a summer signing from Villarreal, received five bookings in his initial six Premier League matches for Chelsea. Nevertheless, he has only accumulated four yellow cards in the months that followed.

Several fans on social media believed Jackson should have been sent off. One fan commented, “He shouldn’t even be on the field after that,” while another questioned, “Why wasn’t that at least a yellow card?”.

Fortunately for Arsenal, the decision did not have an immediate impact. Tomiyasu was able to carry on playing, and Mikel Arteta’s team dominated the game in the second half.

The win for the Gunners was sufficient to place them three points ahead at the top of the Premier League table, although their closest rivals have a game in hand. Liverpool will face Everton on Wednesday, while Manchester City’s first game in hand will be against Brighton 24 hours later.

Arsenal will be back in action this Sunday, facing a highly important North London Derby against Tottenham. Despite their recent defeat, Chelsea still has an opportunity to secure a spot in Europe.

Their upcoming match is against Aston Villa, who are in pursuit of a Champions League spot, on Saturday evening.
