Report: Arsenal’s shortlist for a new striker includes Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres, among others. Mikel Arteta is determined to acquire a natural striker for the team.

Arsenal has compiled a list of four potential strikers for the upcoming transfer window, with Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres among the names being considered.

Despite the fans’ pleas for a new striker during a rough patch of form, the club has not included Ivan Toney in their shortlist. The Gunners’ manager, Mikel Arteta, is determined to bring in a new natural striker to bolster the squad.

Arsenal has reportedly compiled a list of four potential strikers for the upcoming summer transfer window, but Ivan Toney from Brentford is not included.

In a disappointing run of form during the winter, winning only one out of seven games from December 9 to January 7 and scoring just five goals, Arsenal fans were hoping for a new striker to join the team mid-season.

Despite the fans’ pleas, Arsenal did not make any moves due to the looming threat of Financial Fair Play sanctions, especially after spending over £200m on Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber in the previous summer transfer window.

Since their return from a mid-season Dubai training camp, Mikel Arteta and Edu’s decision to stick with the available options has proven to be the right one.

The Gunners have been on a rampage, winning all six of their first Premier League games in 2024 and scoring an impressive 25 goals in the process. Notably, they netted 15 goals in their last three matches against Newcastle United, Burnley, and West Ham United.

However, their weaknesses were exposed in a 1-0 defeat to Porto in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League clash. Despite their attacking prowess, the Gunners have faced challenges with Gabriel Jesus’ knee injuries and Eddie Nketiah’s inability to secure a long-term role as the main striker.

Arsenal are looking to secure a new striker this summer after allowing Folarin Balogun to join Monaco.

According to TEAMtalk, the Gunners are considering four names for the position. One of the potential targets is Victor Osimhen, the top scorer in Serie A last season, who will be leaving Napoli.

Chelsea and PSG are also interested in signing the Nigerian forward, with PSG being in a better financial position to meet his £113m release clause. Another option being considered is Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, who has been in impressive form in Portugal.

Gyokeres, the Sweden international, is currently second in the Primeira Liga scoring charts with 17 goals, just behind Simon Banza’a of Braga who has 18 goals. Additionally, Gyokeres has scored five goals in the ongoing Europa League campaign.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Joao Pedro is one of the few players who have scored more Europa League goals than Gyokeres this season. Emirates chiefs are keeping an eye on Pedro, as well as Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface.

Victor Boniface could potentially finish the 2023-24 season with a Bundesliga winners’ medal. He started the season strong with 16 goals and eight assists in 23 appearances, but has been sidelined since December due to a groin injury.

Conversely, discussions about Brentford striker Toney transferring to the Emirates have quieted down. It seems that Arsenal is seeking a different type of striker and is interested in younger players rather than the 27-year-old Toney.

Arteta’s team travels to Bramall Lane for Monday’s Premier League match against Sheffield United, with the opportunity to make history by being the first team in English football to score five or more goals in three consecutive away league games.
