Liverpool is poised to agree to an initial fee of £63 million to override a player’s commitment to join Manchester United, according to reports.

Manchester United has shown strong interest in acquiring Jarrad Branthwaite this summer, but Liverpool is now making a significant move to secure his signing.

The Red Devils previously submitted a £50 million offer for the Everton center-back and reached an agreement on personal terms with him.

However, the inability to meet Everton’s asking price has stalled the deal, prompting Liverpool to step in and fulfill the financial requirements.

According to an exclusive report from The Sun, Liverpool aims to snatch Jarrad Branthwaite away from Manchester United’s grasp.

It would be quite surprising for Everton to sell one of their top players to their arch-rivals, as Liverpool has not signed a player directly from the blue side of Merseyside in over twenty years.

According to a British news outlet, Liverpool is prepared to agree to an initial transfer fee of £63 million, along with an additional £7 million in performance-related bonuses, to finalize the acquisition of Branthwaite, bringing the total deal to £70 million.

The young player is reportedly open to joining Anfield, attracted by a substantial weekly salary of approximately £180,000.

If Arne Slot’s squad successfully completes this transfer, it would represent a significant addition, as the 22-year-old is regarded as one of the most talented English center backs currently available.

Manchester United could have matched the asking price if they had chosen to, but it seems they are convinced that Leny Yoro is the superior option, leading them to invest heavily in securing him from Lille.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag has decided to reconnect with his former Ajax captain, Matthijs de Ligt, which realistically leaves no space for another center back at Old Trafford.
