Report: Liverpool is currently attempting to hijack Arsenal’s primary target for the summer transfer window.

Liverpool is reportedly attempting to disrupt Arsenal’s plans by pursuing Viktor Gyokeres, who is said to be the Gunners’ top target for the summer transfer window.

According to Pete O’Rourke at Football Insider, the chances of Gyokeres moving to the Premier League are slim due to his £86m release clause.

The Sporting Lisbon player has garnered significant attention after an outstanding season under Ruben Amorim, contributing to 58 goals in 50 matches as his team clinched the league title in 2023/24.

Prior to his move to Sporting Lisbon for approximately £20m, the 26-year-old Swede had a successful spell at Coventry City in the Championship.

Gyokeres had an impressive two-and-a-half-year spell at Coventry City in the Championship before making a move to Sporting Lisbon for a reported fee of £20m.

The Swedish forward has attracted interest from several top clubs in Europe following a standout debut season in the Primeira Liga.

Scoring 43 goals and providing 12 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions last season, the 26-year-old has proven to be a prolific striker.

Although Arsenal have been linked with a move for Gyokeres as they search for a new center-forward, reports suggest that they may face tough competition from other clubs to secure his services.

Liverpool’s current lineup includes Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Cody Gakpo, all of whom are capable of playing in the forward line.

Just like the situation with Luis Diaz, we will not be bringing in a new striker without first selling one.

Realistically, we don’t see that happening. Therefore, we advise supporters not to take this report at face value.

While Gyokeres could be a good signing for one of our rivals, it’s highly unlikely that he will end up at Anfield this summer, especially not for the price that has been quoted.
