Report: Huge claims, Salah and Van Dijk have signed new Liverpool deals, but Alexander-Arnold fears delays in the announcement might be postponed…
Significant reports suggest that Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk have secured new contracts with Liverpool, but concerns regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold are causing delays in the official announcement of these extensions.
It has been widely reported that Salah and Van Dijk have signed new contracts with Liverpool, although there is a growing concern that the announcement related to Alexander-Arnold might be postponed.
Liverpool currently sits atop the Premier League, enjoying a six-point lead over Arsenal, along with a game in hand.
The team has also advanced to the last-16 of the Champions League and aims to reach the Carabao Cup final by overcoming a 1-0 deficit against Tottenham at home on Thursday night.
Despite a promising first season for manager Arne Slot, uncertainty looms over Anfield as three key players have contracts expiring at the end of the season, raising the possibility of them leaving as free agents.
Discussions regarding the renewals of Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold have been ongoing for some time.
The club is expected to incur substantial financial commitments if agreements are reached, as all three players are anticipated to receive considerable pay increases, despite already being among the highest earners at the club.
According to an exclusive report from Anfield Edition, both Salah and Van Dijk have officially signed new contracts to extend their tenures at Liverpool.
However, the report also highlights concerns regarding Alexander-Arnold, who has attracted interest from Real Madrid.
The club is reportedly cautious about discussing his situation publicly, as they wish to avoid drawing attention to the vice-captain, who has yet to finalize a new deal.
Liverpool turned down two proposals from the current European champions for the right-back during the winter transfer window.
While the club remains optimistic about convincing the player to remain, troubling new reports from Spain suggest that an agreement to transfer the 26-year-old to the Bernabeu is ‘90% complete.’
What types of contracts might Salah and Van Dijk have signed at Liverpool? The absence of updates regarding Alexander-Arnold is not unexpected, especially as the player prefers to keep discussions about his future private. As the season draws to a close, the likelihood of his departure appears to be increasing.
Adding to these concerns, a report from last month disclosed the substantial signing-on bonus Alexander-Arnold would receive if he transfers to Madrid.
On a more positive note, reports indicate that both Van Dijk and Salah have potentially agreed to extend their contracts, which would be a significant boost for everyone connected with the club if confirmed.
Currently, Anfield Edition has not provided further specifics, but it is believed that Salah is aiming for a salary of around £400,000 per week over a three-year period, which would take him close to the age of 36.
Regarding Van Dijk, our transfer insider Fraser Fletcher mentioned that a new agreement with the formidable Dutch defender was nearing completion back in November.
According to Fletcher, the club has reached terms on a new two-year contract for Van Dijk, extending his stay until the summer of 2027, also approaching his 36th birthday. The terms are expected to be similar to his current £220,000 per week salary, although a modest increase cannot be excluded.
Additionally, our sources indicate that Liverpool is actively searching for a long-term successor for their influential captain, recognizing that he may need to be replaced either at the end of any extension or possibly even sooner.
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, whose contract at Selhurst Park runs until the summer of 2026, continues to be a primary target for Liverpool. A potential transfer to Anfield this summer remains a possibility.
In other transfer news, BBC pundit Troy Deeney has criticized Liverpool for not yet announcing a new contract for Mohamed Salah, calling the delay foolish. Meanwhile, a prominent figure in Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in Salah, labeling him as the “big prize” for the nation.
Additionally, Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool to strengthen their squad by signing players in three key positions this summer. The pursuit of a dynamic player in a critical area has been facilitated by Manchester United’s actions.
Liverpool did not make any significant signings during the January transfer window, resulting in only one confirmed addition—Federico Chiesa—since the appointment of their current manager last summer, with another player, Giorgi Mamardashvili, expected to join this summer.
While Carragher has expressed his confidence in FSG, he acknowledges that there are clear areas that require enhancement.
Furthermore, it has come to light that Liverpool rejected a last-minute offer from Middlesbrough for Tyler Morton, as Michael Carrick’s team did not meet the club’s valuation.
