Paul Merson shares his predictions for the upcoming match between Liverpool and Brighton on Saturday – “I think Brighton will…
Paul Merson provides his analysis on which team will emerge victorious in the Liverpool and Brighton match scheduled for Saturday.
Liverpool is set to return to Premier League action tomorrow as they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Anfield, following their recent victory over the same team in the Carabao Cup.
Currently, the Reds sit just one point behind Manchester City in the league standings and aim to secure their eighth league win of the season, continuing their impressive start under manager Arne Slot.
Brighton, under the guidance of Fabian Hurzeler, has also made a strong start and will be looking to bounce back from their recent cup defeat.
However, Paul Merson believes that Liverpool will prove too strong for their opponents in this encounter.
Merson predicts a Liverpool victory over Brighton.
The recent Carabao Cup match was an exciting affair, with Liverpool edging out Brighton in a 3-2 finish after a thrilling second half.
Saturday’s match is expected to present a different challenge, as both teams will reintegrate key players who were rested during the midweek fixture.
While Merson acknowledges Brighton’s solid form under their new manager, he feels they lack the consistency needed to compete effectively at Anfield.
“Liverpool are progressing well,” Merson stated in his column for Sportskeeda. “They had an excellent cup result against Brighton, and I believe they will win again this weekend.
Their performance against Arsenal last week was impressive, as they managed to come from behind to secure a draw.
“Brighton can be unpredictable; when they are on form, they are formidable, but when they are not, they struggle.
This will be a challenging match for Liverpool, but I still anticipate they will demonstrate their quality and earn the three points.”
Liverpool vs Brighton Head-to-Head Record
Liverpool triumphed in the corresponding fixture last season with a 2-1 victory, but the Seagulls have managed to defeat the Reds three times in their last ten encounters across all competitions, with three matches ending in a draw.

In the FA Cup on January 29, 2023, Brighton triumphed with a score of 2-1.
Their most recent encounter on October 8, 2023, also ended in a 2-2 draw.
Looking ahead to March 31, 2024, Liverpool managed a 2-1 victory over Brighton, followed by a League Cup match on October 30, 2024, where Brighton lost 2-3 to Liverpool.
Hurzeler believed Brighton could achieve a favorable outcome in their Carabao Cup match against Liverpool, but the result did not align with his expectations.
Nevertheless, the young manager has an opportunity to rectify this situation soon and aims to disrupt Liverpool’s momentum at Anfield in their upcoming match tomorrow.
