Liverpool is considering a bold last-minute attempt to secure the signing of a £67 million player from a prominent European club on Deadline Day.

Liverpool is demonstrating a sense of urgency in the transfer market as Deadline Day approaches.

With the acquisitions of Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa already secured, the club is now reportedly seeking a defender, particularly with uncertainties surrounding Joe Gomez’s future.

Journalist Francois Plateau has indicated that the Reds are monitoring Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni for a potential last-minute signing.

However, he is not the only player under consideration, as Jarrad Branthwaite and Castello Lukeba are also on their radar.

Bastoni has been previously rumored to be leaving Internazionale, but to deter suitors, he has been assigned a hefty price tag of £67 million.

Branthwaite is expected to command a fee closer to £75 million, while Lukeba may present a more affordable option.

Challenges in acquiring Bastoni for Liverpool.

Despite Liverpool’s proactive approach in the transfer market, their pursuit of Alessandro Bastoni may be overly ambitious at this point.

It is unlikely that they will secure his services this summer, as he is a crucial player for Inter Milan, who would struggle to find a suitable replacement on short notice.

Additionally, Bastoni appears focused on winning the Scudetto this season, suggesting his commitment to Simone Inzaghi’s project at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Nonetheless, Bastoni would represent an excellent long-term investment for Liverpool, especially as they prepare for a future without Virgil van Dijk, whose contract expires in 2025.

As one of the top central defenders globally, and having honed his skills in a league known for its defensive prowess, he could be an ideal successor to Van Dijk.

As the transfer window draws to a close, time is of the essence.
