Michael Edwards identifies £70m attacker as Liverpool’s main target for the upcoming summer transfer window…
Liverpool’s summer transfer plans revolve around securing the services of a £70m attacker, with Michael Edwards spearheading the pursuit.
Liverpool are reportedly set to make a move for Jamal Musiala in the upcoming summer transfer window, as Michael Edwards is said to be focusing on bringing the Bayern Munich player to Anfield.
Confirmed reports indicate that Edwards, the well-known former sporting director of Liverpool, has finalized an agreement to rejoin the club in a different role as FSG’s CEO of Football following a two-year break.
At 44 years old, Edwards is highly praised for his contributions to assembling the squad that secured both Champions League and Premier League titles. He is recognized for his talent identification skills and negotiating abilities.
Liverpool have reportedly identified Jamal Musiala as a top transfer target for the upcoming summer window, with Michael Edwards leading the charge.
Edwards, who is set to return to Liverpool as FSG’s CEO of Football, is renowned for his talent-spotting abilities and negotiating skills. His previous contributions to the club’s success in both domestic and European competitions have earned him widespread recognition.
Now positioned to assume a comprehensive leadership role that will also encompass an additional club in FSG’s portfolio, Edwards is anticipated to appoint Richard Hughes as the Reds’ new sporting director. Together, they will oversee the recruitment, squad planning, and philosophy in the post-Jurgen Klopp era.
As per a report, Edwards, who was present at Old Trafford for Liverpool’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, has already identified Musiala as a top target for the upcoming summer transfer window. Football Insider states that the 21-year-old is expected to be among Edwards’ initial priorities as Liverpool prepares for the transfer window without Klopp for the first time since 2015.
Liverpool have expressed a strong interest in Musiala, but Bayern Munich has no intention of letting go of the talented attacking midfielder. In fact, they are reportedly demanding a hefty £70m fee to discourage any potential sale.
However, Musiala’s contract situation could complicate matters for Bayern. His current deal is set to expire in two years, and negotiations for an extension have not been successful thus far, as the player has rejected offers from the Bundesliga giants.
Manchester City has also been linked with Musiala, and it has been revealed that Chelsea will receive 20% of any transfer fee if Bayern decides to sell.
Born in Stuttgart, Musiala spent a significant part of his childhood in the United Kingdom and has a British-Nigerian father. He initially represented England at various youth levels before switching his allegiance to Germany.
Since making his senior team debut in 2021, he has earned 25 caps and has been in impressive form this season, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in all competitions. He will soon face Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
