Martin Zubimendi signed, and Anthony Gordon is set to join: A revamped Liverpool XI poised to compete for the Premier League title under Arne Slot.

Martin Zubimendi’s signing, along with Anthony Gordon’s expected move, marks the beginning of a transformed Liverpool team ready to challenge for the Premier League title under the guidance of Arne Slot.

Liverpool has yet to secure any summer signings but is on the verge of assembling a starting XI capable of mounting a title challenge.

The Reds will kick off the Arne Slot era next Saturday with an away match against newly promoted Ipswich Town.

So far, there has been minimal transfer activity at Anfield, aside from the significant exits of Thiago, Joel Matip, and Adrian.

Liverpool is eager to bring in Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad as their inaugural signing under Slot.

The remarkable transfer of Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, who previously played for fierce city rivals Everton, has generated considerable discussion this summer.

As the new season approaches, talkSPORT.com has examined a potential starting lineup for Liverpool, considering various transfer possibilities.

Alisson has been instrumental in the club’s achievements in the Premier League, Champions League, and domestic cups during Jurgen Klopp’s nine-year tenure.

With three years remaining on his contract and at the age of 31, he is expected to continue as their primary goalkeeper for the foreseeable future.

Liverpool’s defensive lineup appears largely settled, with Andy Robertson anticipated to retain his position as the preferred left-back.

He was sidelined for a significant portion of the previous season due to a shoulder injury; however, his extensive defensive experience and record of 65 assists in 297 matches make him a dependable asset for Slot.

Club captain Virgil van Dijk has been rumored to be considering a move this summer, as he has only one year left on his contract at Anfield.

Liverpool remains optimistic about his future with the club, as the Dutch defender is widely regarded as one of their all-time greats.

Ibrahima Konate is likely to partner with Van Dijk in the center-back position, with the duo having played together in 64 matches for the Reds.

Throughout the summer, the most talked-about potential departure has been Trent Alexander-Arnold, a standout product of their academy.

With 100 goal contributions in 310 appearances for Liverpool, the 25-year-old has become a prime target for Real Madrid, especially with his contract set to expire next summer.

The right-back is poised to become another high-profile acquisition for the Spanish club following Kylian Mbappe, but according to talkSPORT, the Reds are optimistic that the right-back will agree to a new contract.

During his inaugural press conference with Liverpool, Slot shared his perspective on the team’s formation.

“At times, we adopt a 4-2-3-1 setup, while at other moments, it shifts to a 4-1-4-1. We also occasionally build up play with three players. This allows for considerable freedom when we have possession.”

He continued, “I wouldn’t limit myself to stating a preference for 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, or 4-1-4-1.”

“There are numerous players occupying various positions, so if you were to ask me, I would argue that we played 4-3-3 rather than 4-2-3-1 at Feyenoord.”

The final formation will soon be evident on the field, and in terms of midfield, Zubimendi will bring an additional layer of quality.

A product of Sociedad’s academy, the Euro 2024 champion with Spain is capable of playing both as a defensive and central midfielder.

Liverpool supporters will undoubtedly be excited to learn that he looks up to club icon Xabi Alonso, although the 25-year-old currently has a release clause set at £51 million.

Other potential candidates include Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, Harvey Elliott, and Curtis Jones, but the acquisition of Zubimendi could provide an additional advantage.

One of the standout performers for the Reds last season was Alexis Mac Allister, whose initial transfer fee of £35 million turned out to be quite a steal.

He netted seven goals and provided seven assists in his debut season, and like Zubimendi, he is versatile enough to operate in both defensive and central midfield roles.

Mac Allister excelled in a more offensive position for Brighton, allowing him to also function as a no.10, although Dominik Szoboszlai is another strong candidate for that role, and the two could easily switch positions.
