Manchester United vs Liverpool match preview: Curtis Jones set to start, injury crisis for Man Utd
Liverpool are set to receive a boost with the potential return of Wataru Endo for their crucial Premier League clash against Manchester United on Sunday.
Man Utd is dealing with an injury crisis as they could potentially be without seven players for the Liverpool match following a recent double blow.
With the absence of Evans and Varane, Harry Maguire and young talent Willy Kambwala are now the only fit central defenders under Ten Hag’s command. This situation could potentially give Liverpool the advantage they need to adopt an aggressive approach at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag openly acknowledged the impact of losing Evans and Varane after the defeat at Stamford Bridge, but he is still uncertain about the full consequences for Sunday’s game.
After suffering a dramatic defeat in the FA Cup last month at Old Trafford, Jurgen Klopp’s side will be seeking redemption as they aim for victory in the Premier League encounter.
Liverpool’s hopes of securing a quadruple were dashed with that previous loss, marking Klopp’s final season in charge. However, they currently sit at the top of the Premier League standings following their triumph over Sheffield United in Gameweek 32.
In terms of team news, Curtis Jones is expected to feature in the starting lineup for Liverpool. Meanwhile, Manchester United is facing an injury crisis, which adds to the challenges they will face in this highly anticipated match.
When the Reds start their match against their long-standing rivals, they may require three points to regain the top position. Endo was given a break during the recent 3-1 victory over Sheffield United on Thursday, ensuring Liverpool’s pursuit of the title remains on track after he suffered an injury in the previous win against Brighton.
Following the triumph over the Blades, Klopp stated, “We decided to rest him today. We had a feeling that there might have been a chance for him to play tonight, but by leaving him out, there is a significant opportunity for him to feature on Sunday. I hope that plan remains unchanged.”
Additionally, Mohamed Salah was substituted early on Thursday, but Klopp has clarified that it was solely to provide the winger with some rest. Curtis Jones and Andy Robertson have returned to the squad as well, further strengthening Liverpool’s options for this crucial match.
Unfortunately, Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Joel Matip, Ben Doak, and Stefan Bajcetic will all be absent.
However, several players including Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Jota, Matip, Doak, and Bajcetic are still sidelined due to injuries. The predicted Liverpool XI for the game includes Kelleher, Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Endo, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Salah, Nunez, and Diaz.
