Liverpool has announced its lineup for the upcoming game against Bayer Leverkusen, with significant decisions regarding Ibrahima Konate and Alexis Mac Allister now confirmed.
Liverpool’s line-up for the match against Bayer Leverkusen has been finalized, with key decisions regarding Ibrahima Konate and Alexis Mac Allister made.
On Tuesday night, Liverpool will continue their European campaign, facing a formidable Bayer Leverkusen team managed by former player Xabi Alonso at Anfield.
The Reds have enjoyed a perfect start in the Champions League this season, winning all three of their matches in the newly structured group stage.
A win in this fixture would almost guarantee their progression to the knockout rounds in the upcoming year. Leverkusen has also performed well, securing two victories and a draw in their initial three games.
Paul Gorst, Ian Doyle, and Theo Squires will be present to cover the match. Here’s how they envision the team lining up.
It’s challenging to determine which match holds more significance this week at Anfield: the Champions League clash against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen or the Premier League encounter with Aston Villa.
However, it seems unlikely that there will be significant rotation, even if Arne Slot prioritizes Saturday’s match.
The primary uncertainties lie in the left-back position, left-wing, and possibly the No. 10 role. With that in mind, those are the areas where I anticipate making changes.
Ibrahima Konate is fit to play and will be included in the starting eleven.
This could be an opportune moment for Curtis Jones to replace Dominik Szoboszlai, as Jones has been in good form and will be eager to make an impact.
In the left-back position, Andy Robertson may come in for Kostas Tsimikas, as Slot continues to rotate players on that flank.
In the forward line, Cody Gakpo could be rested. Given the demanding schedule of three matches in six days, it would be wise to allow the Netherlands international some time off, with Luis Diaz stepping in to start.
My proposed line-up (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Jones, Diaz; Nunez.
The Champions League is back, and Xabi Alonso finds himself in the Anfield dugout, albeit as the opposing manager. Meanwhile, Arne Slot continues to enjoy success as the manager of Liverpool.
What strategy should the Dutchman employ this evening against Bayer Leverkusen?
Some rotation is necessary, but it should not be excessive. Caoimhin Kelleher can remain in goal, and the entire defensive line can stay intact, featuring Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, the fit-again Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk in central defense, with Kostas Tsimikas at left-back.
In the midfield, Alexis Mac Allister should be given a break.
Curtis Jones can step in alongside Ryan Gravenberch in the double pivot, while Dominik Szoboszlai retains his position as the number 10.
In the attacking front, Cody Gakpo appeared fatigued towards the end of the match against Brighton over the weekend, so Luis Diaz can take his place on the left.
Mohamed Salah will occupy the right flank, with Darwin Nunez leading the line.
My lineup (4-2-3-1): Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Jones; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Nunez.
