Liverpool will discover their opponents for the Europa League round of 16 this Friday. Jurgen Klopp’s team is currently seen as the top contenders to clinch the title.

AC Milan and Roma are among the potential teams they could face in the knockout stages. Klopp is not only focused on the Premier League as he aims to end his Liverpool tenure on a high note.

Despite their consistent presence in the Champions League under Klopp, a disappointing 2022/23 season has led them to compete in the Europa League this year.

Klopp successfully led Liverpool to the Europa League final in his first season, but unfortunately, they were defeated by the perennial champions, Sevilla.

After finishing at the top of Group E in 2023, the Premier League team is poised for another impressive run in the competition. As a result, they bypassed the knockout play-off round and advanced directly to the round of 16.

The Reds will soon learn the date of the Europa League round of 16 draw. Following the conclusion of the knockout play-off round on Thursday, the draw is scheduled to take place on Friday, 23 February at 11:00 GMT. The draw will be held at UEFA HQ in Nyon, Switzerland.

The Europa League round of 16 draw will be held at UEFA HQ in Nyon, Switzerland. Liverpool has the possibility of facing any of the 16 teams that are competing in the knockout play-off round.

However, after the second legs on Thursday, half of these teams will be eliminated. It is important to note that Liverpool cannot be drawn against any other group winners. This means that a potential match-up with Bayer Leverkusen, led by Xabi Alonso, who is rumored to be a potential successor to Klopp at Anfield next season, is ruled out.

If both Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen advance to the quarter-finals, there is a theoretical chance of Alonso returning to Merseyside.

However, Liverpool has a wide range of prestigious clubs to potentially face in the draw. This includes renowned Serie A teams such as AC Milan and Roma. Additionally, French side Marseille, who recently parted ways with manager Gennaro Gattuso, are also in the mix.

On the other hand, Liverpool will be hoping to avoid facing Primeira Liga high-flyers Sporting CP, who eliminated Arsenal from the competition in the round of 16 last season.

If Feyenoord, the reigning Dutch champions, manage to overcome Roma, they would prove to be a tough opponent for Liverpool due to their impressive form at De Kuip.

Furthermore, the formidable home venues of Lens and Galatasaray would present challenging environments for Liverpool to visit.

While Liverpool is confident in their abilities against any opponent, they would particularly welcome a tie against teams like Braga, Freiburg, Young Boys, or Sparta Prague.
