Liverpool’s lineup against Southampton is anticipated to undergo significant changes, with eight alterations expected due to a decision regarding Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool squad set to face Southampton is projected to undergo eight changes, a move prompted by the situation surrounding Darwin Nunez.

Ahead of the match against Southampton, Liverpool is expected to make eight alterations to their squad, following a decision on Darwin Nunez.

Arne Slot has indicated his intention to rest several key players, but concerns linger over the left-back position amid a defensive injury crisis.

For the upcoming Carabao Cup match at St Mary’s, Liverpool is poised to implement extensive changes.

A victory would secure a place in the semi-finals, bringing the new Liverpool manager closer to his inaugural trophy.

Given the demanding schedule, Slot acknowledged the necessity of refreshing the squad.

“The League Cup presents a positive opportunity, as we haven’t utilized many starters thus far, primarily featuring those who have had limited playing time,” the Dutch manager stated during Tuesday’s press briefing.

“Most of the players who have frequently started will likely not play the full 90 minutes, and some may not participate at all,” he continued.

Slot highlighted Wataru Endo as a probable inclusion in the lineup, noting he has yet to start a league match this season.

Additionally, Caoimhin Kelleher is set to replace Alisson in goal. The heavily rotated squad may also see Jarell Quansah, Tyler Morton, and Harvey Elliott included.

Defensively, however, Slot faces challenges with only four senior players available.

He mentioned on Tuesday that Kostas Tsimikas might return from injury, which would be a crucial advantage given Andy Robertson’s suspension. If Tsimikas is unable to play, James Norris is likely to take his place.

The 21-year-old defender was on the bench against Girona last week and was omitted from the Under-21 squad for the match against Crystal Palace on Monday.

As a regular left-back for the youth team, Norris stands as the clear candidate to step in if Tsimikas is unavailable, potentially making his first senior appearance since January 2022.
