Liverpool team update: Projected lineup against Ipswich as decisions on Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz are finalized.

In-form star returns as Slot implements four changes | Predicted Liverpool XI vs Ipswich Town.

Liverpool faces Ipswich Town at Anfield, aiming for consecutive Premier League victories while extending their unbeaten streak to 17 matches in the top tier of English football.

The league leaders will compete simultaneously with title challengers Arsenal (playing away at Wolves) and Nottingham Forest (visiting Bournemouth) in a 3pm kick-off.

Express Sport examines how Liverpool might set up for the match at Anfield…

Goalkeeper: Alisson

There are no surprises expected in goal, with Alisson retaining his position. The Brazilian goalkeeper has not recorded a Premier League clean sheet at Anfield since August, having conceded in his last four appearances.

The last time Liverpool secured a home clean sheet was against Manchester City on December 1, when Caoimhin Kelleher filled in for Alisson due to injury.

Notably, 12 of Ipswich’s 20 goals this season have been scored away from home, indicating their potential threat on the counter-attack.

Defence: Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson

Following Liverpool’s midweek victory over Lille in the Champions League, Arne Slot is expected to make three adjustments to his defensive lineup. Captain Virgil van Dijk is likely to be the sole player retained in the back four.

Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley, and Kostas Tsimikas are anticipated to be replaced, especially since Tsimikas played the entire match. Ibrahima Konate will join Van Dijk in central defense.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, who came on as a late substitute against Lille, is set to return to the starting lineup at right-back. On the left, Robertson is expected to start despite the speed of Omari Hutchinson.

Midfield: Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Szoboszlai

On Tuesday night, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister each played 45 minutes and are set to start together against the Tractor Boys. Curtis Jones will miss the match due to an injury he sustained in the game against Lille.

Dominik Szoboszlai will add additional dynamism from the No.10 role, while Harvey Elliott will be looking to make an impact off the bench after his strong performance as a substitute in Europe.

Attack: Salah, Nunez, Gakpo

Mohamed Salah, who has recorded 18 goals and 13 assists in 21 Premier League appearances, is a guaranteed starter on the right flank. Despite not contributing to a goal in his last two league matches, he will be keen to capitalize against an Ipswich side he found the net against on the opening day of the season.

With Diogo Jota sidelined due to injury, Darwin Nunez will make his first league start of 2025 following a two-goal performance off the bench at Brentford last weekend. The most challenging decision for Slot will be selecting the left winger.

Cody Gakpo’s lack of minutes against Lille, contrasted with Luis Diaz’s 75 minutes, suggests that Gakpo will be chosen for the starting role. He has scored in each of his last four Premier League starts at Anfield.
