Liverpool and Brighton injury update with Kaoru Mitoma and nine others ruled out of Premier League showdown

Liverpool is aiming to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League as they prepare to take on Brighton. Both teams are facing injury concerns leading up to their match on Sunday.

There is a slim margin separating the top three teams, but with one of those teams dropping points, Liverpool must be ready to take advantage. The previous match at the Amex Stadium ended in a 2-2 draw, and Liverpool has struggled against their opponents on Sunday in recent times.

To be precise, Jürgen Klopp’s team has only managed to win one out of the eight meetings between the two sides in all competitions. Brighton has managed to avoid defeat in their last three visits to Anfield.

This match will also feature Liverpool facing a potential future manager candidate in Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian has been linked with Liverpool, as well as several other clubs, and The Guardian has reported that he is being considered as an alternative to their top target, Xabi Alonso.

Both teams have injury concerns heading into the match, although Liverpool’s situation is gradually improving. Klopp is still expected to be without several key players for Sunday’s clash. Here is the latest update on injuries from both teams…

Liverpool’s injury situation has some positive updates ahead of their match against Brighton. Unfortunately, their No.1 goalkeeper Alisson Becker will still be unavailable due to a hamstring injury he sustained before the win over Brentford. This means Caoimhín Kelleher will continue to fill in for him.

On a brighter note, Trent Alexander-Arnold is nearing a return to the defense, although this particular match might come a bit too soon for the Liverpool vice-captain. Additionally, Ibrahima Konaté, who missed the last three matches, is expected to feature for France against Chile on Tuesday.

There is also some good news regarding Curtis Jones, as manager Klopp confirmed that the midfielder is close to making a comeback from his injury. Furthermore, Darwin Núñez is expected to be fit after picking up a knock at Old Trafford, and Diogo Jota is also not too far away from returning.

However, Liverpool still has some longer-term absentees in Joël Matip, Thiago Alcântara, and Ben Doak. On a positive note, Stefan Bajčetić is making progress towards returning to training after a stop-start campaign.

Brighton’s injury situation remains a concern for manager Roberto De Zerbi, as several key players are set to miss the rest of the season. Among them is Japanese winger Kaoru Mitoma, who continues to be sidelined with a back problem. Additionally, young player Jack Hinshelwood is unlikely to feature again this term, while Solly March has been out of action since October due to a serious knee problem.

Furthermore, Brighton has been without their top scorer João Pedro since the beginning of February. Pedro, who has scored 19 goals this season, may have an outside chance of being involved in the upcoming match against Liverpool at Anfield, along with defender Adam Webster.

On a positive note, De Zerbi could have the availability of two former Liverpool players, James Milner and Adam Lallana. Milner, who has been out of action since the loss to Luton, is nearing a return.

Liverpool.com acknowledges that Sunday’s match will be a tough test for Liverpool, and they cannot afford to slip up. Brighton has a decent record at Anfield and will approach the game without fear.

However, the absence of Mitoma is a significant blow for them. De Zerbi will be hopeful of having João Pedro, their top scorer, back in the lineup as he aims to cause an upset.
