Arne Slot emphasizes that Liverpool is diligently pursuing new signings, noting that they are the only Premier League club yet to make a summer acquisition.

The Dutch coach acknowledges that identifying a player who meets the club’s standards is “not so easy.”

Slot reiterates that it is challenging to find a suitable player for Liverpool, but he assures that the club is making significant efforts to break their record of being the only Premier League team without a new addition this transfer window.

Despite his team’s impressive performance during their pre-season tour in America, where they triumphed over Real Betis, Arsenal, and Manchester United, fans in Liverpool have expressed frustration over the lack of transfer developments this summer.

The ex-Feyenoord manager emphasized that he and the new sporting director, Richard Hughes, are prioritizing quality over quantity. During an interview with British journalists in South Carolina, Slot faced a barrage of questions regarding transfers and unresolved contract negotiations.

He stated: “I’ve noticed that there is a lot of focus on new signings. However, my main focus is on the tour, our performance, areas for improvement, and our strengths. As I mentioned earlier, the standards for new signings are quite high due to the talented players we already have.

“It’s not a simple task to identify a player who meets our criteria and then determine their availability. Subsequently, reaching an agreement with them adds another layer of complexity. It’s challenging to find a player who can contribute to our team, but Richard is diligently working on it. We’ll have to wait and see what unfolds from his efforts.”

Arne Slot emphasized the difficulty of finding a player of sufficient quality to join Liverpool.

Despite being the only Premier League team yet to make a signing this summer, Slot assured that sporting director Richard Hughes is diligently working behind the scenes.

Slot mentioned that even when Hughes is not physically present, they communicate frequently over the phone. Slot’s primary focus remains on preparing the team for the upcoming Premier League game, while Hughes handles transfer matters and keeps him informed regularly.

Liverpool seems to be facing a challenge in the No 6 position, which has been problematic since the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson over a year ago.

Although Wataru Endo has been brought in, Slot’s lack of enthusiasm for him is evident from the pre-season performances. The club has received interest in Endo, indicating that they are exploring other options for the position.

Ryan Gravenberch performed admirably in that role (against United) and we have various alternatives at our disposal. The most accurate assessment will be possible once we have all our players back, which is not the case yet. However, a prestigious club like Liverpool always remains vigilant to explore available options.

We are actively seeking players who can enhance the squad, a responsibility primarily shouldered by Richard but also involving me. This search is not limited to a specific position. We consistently assess the squad to identify areas for improvement and capitalize on our existing strengths.

We have a solid foundation to work with, not only due to this tour, but also because Jurgen Klopp left the team in an excellent condition. It is now our responsibility to maintain the high standards that Liverpool has set over the years.

The Reds are also facing crucial decisions regarding potential departures. Joe Gomez is contemplating his future following interest from Newcastle earlier in the transfer window.

He was part of a proposed double-deal that would have included Anthony Gordon moving to Anfield.

Several additional fringe players – such as Fabio Carvalho, Caoimhin Kelleher, Sepp van den Berg, and Tyler Morton – may be released, with Liverpool preferring permanent transfers. Rising talents like Ben Doak and Bobby Clark are generating significant interest.

When asked about the possibility of players leaving, Slot denied that the Reds have an excess of players, but mentioned Gomez: “He is one of our squad members, so the same applies to Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk, and all the others. I need to assess them.

Everyone must perform at a high level because they have seen how well the current players are doing. I hope that the eight or nine players who join us on Tuesday are prepared to compete with them.”

He was also questioned about contract negotiations with captain Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom have just one year remaining on their contracts. Slot has not yet discussed this issue with Alexander-Arnold.

“We did not discuss his level of commitment,” Slot remarked. “Our conversation centered around the style of play I envision for him and how he could integrate into that approach.

At that time, he was concentrating on the Euros, and I received clips from various sources indicating that he appears to be in excellent shape and performing well.

Slot expressed satisfaction with Liverpool’s performances but acknowledged the difficulties present in the transfer market.

There remains considerable uncertainty regarding the futures of several players, including Fabio Carvalho.

Slot also expressed his eagerness to observe Trent Alexander-Arnold in training following his return to the club.

I am looking forward to seeing him in training. However, others performed admirably during the tour, making it intriguing to see if their return elevates the overall level. As I mentioned, we allowed too many opportunities against United.”

Liverpool has been missing several key players due to their commitments in the European Championship and Copa America, but most have returned in the past 24 hours.

The squad members who participated in the tour were granted time off on Sunday and Monday, and the majority are expected to reunite on Tuesday.

Left back Andy Robertson, 30, did not participate in the US tour but remained with the team after following an individual training regimen. Reports indicate that he returned early from the tour along with a fitness coach, arriving at the training center on Sunday.

The Reds are scheduled for a busy Sunday, facing Spanish club Sevilla at Anfield, followed by a closed-door friendly later that day against Las Palmas, who are based in Tenerife.
