Liverpool starting XI against Sheffield United: Jones and Robertson set to make a comeback, while Gakpo replaces Diaz…
Cody Gakpo is set to start in place of Luis Diaz in Liverpool’s lineup against Sheffield United at Anfield on Thursday.
Arsenal’s victory over Luton Town has seen them rise to the top of the table, putting pressure on Liverpool to secure a win in their upcoming match. The team will be looking to secure a victory and maintain their position in the title race.
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Curtis Jones and Andrew Robertson are fit and available for selection, providing a much-needed boost to the squad ahead of the game.
The manager of Liverpool mentioned, “Curtis is participating in full training and is in contention. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean he can play the full 90 minutes, but he can contribute for a few minutes.”
Regarding Robertson, Klopp emphasized, “Yes, and it’s very important, by the way.”
In the meantime, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, and Diogo Jota are anticipated to make their return next week. Unfortunately, Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip are dealing with long-term injuries and will be out for the rest of the season. Klopp shared updates on the fitness of various players during his press conference.
“The other players are progressing well,” stated the manager. “Diogo and Trent are training together, which benefits both of them. It seems like starting from next week, they will hopefully join parts of team training, and then we will assess the situation.”
“Alisson is working with the goalkeeper coaches, and from what I can see through the fence, it looks promising. I believe he will also be able to participate in parts of team training next week.
Bajcetic is currently training fully with the U21s this week. This means we will include him in our training next week and evaluate his progress. It’s great to have another player joining us, and that’s incredibly important.”
Caoimhin Kelleher is poised to be the starting goalkeeper for Liverpool following his impressive performances in recent matches while filling in for Alisson.
Conor Bradley will maintain his position as the right-back in the absence of Alexander-Arnold, and Robertson is expected to return as the left-back. Ibrahima Konate will partner with Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the defense.
In the midfield, Alexis Mac Allister may be given a break, especially with Curtis Jones available. Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai are likely to be in the starting lineup.
Darwin Nunez will spearhead Liverpool’s attack against Sheffield United, with Mohamed Salah on the right and Cody Gakpo on the left. Luis Diaz, who has been putting in hardworking performances on the left wing, might benefit from a rest at this point.
Projected Liverpool XI: Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Endo, Jones; Salah, Nunez, Gakpo.
