Liverpool star departs international camp for medical reasons – official statement issued and rationale provided.
An official statement has clarified that the Liverpool player has left the international camp on medical grounds.
Virgil van Dijk has left the Netherlands’ training camp in preparation for Liverpool’s upcoming matches against Real Madrid and Manchester City.
The Dutch national team has confirmed that Van Dijk has exited their international squad.
Alongside Frenkie De Jong, the Liverpool captain’s departure was announced by manager Ronald Koeman, who stated that the decision was made for medical reasons.
Consequently, Van Dijk will not participate in the Nations League match against Bosnia and Herzegovina tonight, as the Netherlands has already secured second place in Group A3.
The 33-year-old led his team to a 4-0 victory over Hungary last weekend.
According to Dutch media outlet Voetbal International, Van Dijk’s release from international duty is attributed to his demanding schedule with Liverpool, and he has not sustained any injury.
An official statement from the Netherlands read: “Virgil van Dijk and Frenkie de Jong will not be part of the squad for our final group stage match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the #NationsLeague.”
Koeman remarked: “It is in the best interest of both Frenkie and Virgil to leave the training camp at this time.
“This decision was made on medical grounds, prioritizing the players’ well-being.”
Van Dijk has been in outstanding form, contributing to Liverpool’s position at the top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables.
He has played a key role in helping Arne Slot’s team concede only six goals in the league while maintaining a clean sheet in Europe.
Liverpool will return to action with a match against Southampton on Sunday, followed by a crucial week that includes a clash with European champions Real Madrid on Wednesday, November 27, and a showdown with Premier League rivals Manchester City on Sunday, December 1.
