Reds rumored to have submitted an offer of £56 million for a new midfielder

According to reports from Argentina, Liverpool has made a substantial £56m offer to secure the services of a new defensive midfielder.

Argentine journalist Luis Fregossi has revealed that the Reds have been in contact with FC Porto regarding the potential signing of Alan Varela. Liverpool has been consistently linked with Varela due to his impressive performances since joining Portugal last summer.

Fregossi suggests that Liverpool’s pursuit of Varela goes beyond mere interest, as they are actively working towards securing his signature. In fact, Liverpool is currently the only club to have made an offer for the midfielder.

According to Mundo Boca Radio, Liverpool is the sole team that has shown interest in Portugal, offering to pay 70 million dollars. The player is aware of the contract terms and Boca Juniors would retain 20% of the transfer fee, amounting to 14 million euros.

This would translate to approximately £56m, which is said to be Varela’s release clause. Porto stands to make a significant profit on a player who has only been with them for less than a year, even with Boca’s share.

If Fregossi’s information is accurate, Liverpool appears to be determined in securing their next defensive midfielder.

Liverpool has reportedly made a bid for Alan Varela, indicating their interest in signing the player. This offer is likely informal, serving as a way for Liverpool to inform Porto that they are willing to pay the release clause. However, it is important to note that Liverpool is unlikely to finalize such a significant financial commitment without first appointing their new manager.

Last summer, Liverpool was in pursuit of a defensive midfielder, and although Wataru Endo joined the club, he was not their primary target. Therefore, it is not surprising that Liverpool is looking to acquire another player in 2024.

Varela appears to be a strong contender for Liverpool’s midfield. With a release clause in his contract, the price is non-negotiable, making the deal more straightforward. Additionally, Varela has performed well in both Liga Portugal and the UEFA Champions League, further enhancing his appeal.

Liverpool has extensively scouted Varela throughout the season, indicating a strong interest in securing his services.
