Liverpool’s Projected Lineup Against Bayer Leverkusen: Champions League
Liverpool’s potential lineup against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League features an update on Ibrahima Konate, with Dominik Szoboszlai sidelined and Curtis Jones set to take his place.
Liverpool and Aston Villa currently lead the UCL standings, both boasting nine points.
On November 5, Liverpool aims to maintain their perfect record in the 2024–25 Champions League with a win over Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.
Under the management of Arne Slot, the Reds have climbed to the top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables.
Their only setback this season was a defeat to Nottingham Forest on September 14, with the team also dropping points only against Arsenal in all competitions.
To stay at the summit, Liverpool must become the first team to overcome Bayer Leverkusen in this season’s Champions League.
Following a comeback win against Brighton & Hove Albion over the weekend, the Reds are riding a wave of momentum as they prepare to host the Bundesliga champions at Anfield.
However, Liverpool will be without Alisson, Diogo Jota, Federico Chiesa, and Harvey Elliott due to injuries, limiting Slot’s options from the bench if a spark is needed.
The manager has confirmed that Ibrahima Konaté is fit to play despite sustaining an arm injury on Sunday.
Here’s a look at what Liverpool’s starting eleven might be against Alonso’s squad.
Liverpool Projected Lineup vs. Bayer Leverkusen (4-2-3-1)
GK: Caoimhin Kelleher—The Irish goalkeeper aims to secure his second consecutive clean sheet in the Champions League.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold—After an impressive performance against Brighton, where he recorded the most tackles (8) and duels won (12), the England international will need to replicate that form to contain Florian Wirtz.
CB: Joe Gomez—Despite Konaté’s availability, Slot is likely to prioritize caution and select Gomez to partner with Van Dijk in defense.
CB: Virgil van Dijk—As captain, he plays a crucial role in neutralizing Victor Boniface, who arrives at the UCL match with seven goals in 12 appearances across all competitions.
LB: Andy Robertson—Robertson is set to rejoin the starting lineup following Konstantinos Tsimikas’s full 90-minute appearance against Brighton over the weekend.
DM: Ryan Gravenberch—The Dutch midfielder has completed 13 starts this season, with his only substitution occurring in the 89th minute against Brentford. Gravenberch remains a key player for Slot.
DM: Alexis Mac Allister—The Argentine midfielder netted his sole goal of the season in the Champions League match against Bologna on October 2, and he will look to increase his tally from the outset on Tuesday.
RW: Mohamed Salah—After scoring another decisive goal for Liverpool, Salah will spearhead the attack against Bayer Leverkusen.
AM: Curtis Jones—Following an impressive substitute appearance on Sunday, Jones has secured his place in Slot’s starting XI, showcasing better form than Dominik Szoboszlai.
LW: Luis Díaz—While Cody Gakpo, who has scored three goals in his last two matches, is a strong contender, Díaz is expected to start after only featuring for 34 minutes over the weekend.
ST: Darwin Núñez—Núñez aims to replicate his previous performance in Liverpool’s last UCL match, where he scored the decisive goal against RB Leipzig.
