Liverpool is considering the acquisition of two elite strikers following the approval of Darwin Nunez’s sale.
After receiving clearance for Darwin Nunez’s departure, Liverpool is setting its sights on two prominent strikers.
Liverpool is considering the sale of Darwin Nunez, and recent developments regarding his potential transfer to AC Milan have come to light.
Additionally, TEAMtalk has disclosed that the club is monitoring two high-profile strikers as potential replacements.
Nunez has struggled to meet expectations since his £85 million transfer from Benfica in 2022. Following the appointment of Arne Slot, he lost his position as the primary striker to Diogo Jota.
With Jota sidelined due to a rib injury and working to regain his fitness, Luis Diaz has stepped up as a key attacking option.
Initial training sessions did not fully convince Slot, who has since expressed dissatisfaction with Nunez’s performances.
Consequently, Liverpool is open to exploring his departure, which may be challenging in January but could be feasible in the summer, prompting them to consider alternatives for the upcoming transfer window.
Among the players on Liverpool’s radar is Alexander Isak, although Newcastle’s asking price is perceived as excessively high.
More prominently, Marcus Thuram is attracting interest, with a release clause set at €85 million, which is notably lower than Newcastle’s valuation of Isak.
Liverpool views Inter Milan’s assessment of Thuram as reasonable, and despite Inter’s satisfaction with his contributions, they remain open to negotiations that could yield significant profit.
Regarding the rumors linking Nunez to AC Milan, reports from Italy suggest that the Italian club has been in direct discussions with Liverpool and has made a substantial offer.
Milan proposed a six-month loan arrangement with an obligation to purchase in the summer, including a €5 million loan fee and a permanent transfer fee of €45 million at the end of the season.
The total expense for the operation is projected to be €50 million (£41.5 million).
This amount is significantly lower than what Liverpool invested to acquire Nunez, although the striker’s performances in England have not justified that substantial expenditure.
Reports indicate that Liverpool is contemplating whether to accept the offer; however, we can confirm that there is no verified interest from AC Milan regarding a potential transfer for Nunez in January.
The figures being discussed do not align with the club’s financial strategy, which currently does not entertain such a costly transaction.
Under the guidance of new manager Sergio Conceicao, the Rossoneri are primarily focused on addressing issues related to their on-field performance and results before considering any market activities.
Consequently, a transfer to Milan, particularly in January, seems unlikely. Nevertheless, Liverpool remains open to parting ways with Nunez, with both Thuram and Isak being recognized as potential upgrades.
In other developments, confirmed Liverpool target Milos Kerkez has switched agents, signaling a likely move in 2025.
Kerkez is now represented by Fali Ramadani’s Lian Sports agency, and this change is believed to be a precursor to securing a transfer to a prominent club in the upcoming windows.
Liverpool views Kerkez as a suitable successor to Andy Robertson, with Manchester United also showing interest in the Hungarian player.
“They were very impressive again [vs West Ham],” Lineker remarked about Liverpool on The Rest is Football podcast.
“They’ve established a significant lead now. Nottingham Forest is in second place, which is an extraordinary achievement.
“I honestly can’t see anyone getting close to Liverpool now, can you? They seem unstoppable at this point.”
Shearer added: “Liverpool has been exceptional; they are incredibly strong in every position. They have numerous options.
“They are truly formidable, and it’s difficult to envision anyone other than Liverpool taking the title.”
