Liverpool is reportedly set to secure a £21 million deal for defender Loic Bade in January, according to a recent report.
Reports suggest a major advancement, revealing that Liverpool has come to terms on a £21 million deal to bring in a “complete” player during the January transfer window.
Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool had a relatively uneventful summer transfer window, acquiring only two players.
Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia until next summer, while Federico Chiesa has seen limited action, playing just 78 minutes this season due to ongoing fitness issues.
As January approaches, Slot is expected to be more active in the transfer market.
The club has been linked with several players, including Fulham’s Antonee Robinson, Sporting Lisbon’s Geovany Quenda, and Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk. Notably, a deal for Bade appears to be in place.
Reports from Spain indicate that Liverpool has reached an agreement with Sevilla for a €25 million (£21 million) transfer of Bade.
The Spanish outlet suggests that the Reds have pursued the French defender since last summer, and he is anticipated to join the squad after the New Year, barring any unforeseen complications.
Aston Villa has also shown interest in Bade, who has made a significant impact in Spain.
Since his arrival at Sevilla last year, he has played 67 matches and contributed to the team’s Europa League victory in the 2022/23 season, notably scoring against Manchester United in the quarter-finals.
The 24-year-old has drawn comparisons to former Liverpool player Joel Matip and has been described as “complete” by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig.
He ranks in the 98th percentile for tackles and take-ons among defenders in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year.
Loic Bade is a professional footballer who began his career in France with Le Havre. After a brief stint with his childhood club, he transferred to Lens, and within a year, he moved to Rennes.
In September 2022, he signed a year-long loan with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. However, he departed the club just six months later without making any appearances.
Bade later joined Sevilla, initially on loan, before the move was made permanent in the summer of 2023. At Sevilla, he has become a key player and is recognized as one of the top young defenders in La Liga.
His impressive performances earned him his first call-up to the France national team last month, stepping in for the injured Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana.
Reflecting on his time at Nottingham Forest in an interview with Le Parisien last year, Bade remarked, “I gave everything in training. But these are the coach’s choices.
I thought I’d get my chance, but I didn’t.” He also noted, “It was a blessing in disguise is what I tell myself. If I hadn’t had this difficult period, I wouldn’t have refound myself at Sevilla.”
