Liverpool is eyeing a Real Madrid player to fill the shoes of a departing Anfield favorite, amid an ongoing battle with Arsenal.

Real Madrid’s star is being targeted by Liverpool to replace a beloved player at Anfield, while also facing competition from Arsenal.

Liverpool is cognizant of the fact that Alisson is attracting significant attention from Saudi Arabia and is now eyeing a Real Madrid player as a possible replacement, as per reports.

Alisson made the switch to England in July 2018 after Liverpool forked out £65million to Roma for his transfer, establishing the Brazilian as the most expensive goalkeeper in the world at that time.

Since then, Alisson has proven his worth by securing 114 clean sheets in 263 matches and playing a pivotal role in Liverpool’s remarkable achievements under Jurgen Klopp.

Alisson’s contributions have been instrumental in Liverpool’s success, securing victories in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup (x2), FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.

Known for his exceptional skills in one-on-one situations, the 31-year-old has solidified his position as one of the best goalkeepers globally.

Liverpool has secured Alisson’s services for the long term, with a contract extension until June 2027, distinguishing him from other key players like Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk.

Despite this, Alisson remains a prime target for Saudi club Al-Nassr, with sources revealing that he is their top priority for the goalkeeper position.

TEAMtalk reported on Tuesday that Al-Nassr is aiming to finalize a deal for their new goalkeeper within the next week.

While negotiations for Ederson’s potential transfer from Manchester City are underway, Al-Nassr is also hoping to secure Alisson.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has expressed his desire to stay at Liverpool and continue performing at the highest level, which will help him maintain his position as Brazil’s number one goalkeeper, ahead of Ederson.

Liverpool transfers: Real Madrid raid in the works

However, Liverpool needs to devise a contingency plan in case Alisson decides to leave.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is planning to make significant moves in the transfer market.

Slot and Liverpool are considering Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin as a potential replacement for Alisson.

Liverpool is keeping a close eye on Lunin’s situation and is prepared to make an offer if needed.

Other clubs, such as Arsenal, have also taken notice of Lunin’s contract with Madrid expiring in June 2025. Reports indicate that Arsenal may pursue Lunin as a backup for David Raya if Aaron Ramsdale departs.

This could lead to a transfer showdown between Liverpool and Arsenal for Lunin’s services.

Since joining the squad in July 2020, the 25-year-old has typically served as Madrid’s second or third choice goalkeeper, with several loan spells preceding his integration.

However, last season, Lunin made 31 appearances due to injuries to Thibaut Courtois and his replacement, Kepa Arrizabalaga.

His strong performances contributed to Carlo Ancelotti’s team winning the Champions League, La Liga title, and Spanish super cup.

Despite this, there may be some concern among Liverpool and Arsenal fans about signing him, as he began Euro 2024 as Ukraine’s first-choice keeper but was benched after a poor display in a 3-0 defeat to Romania.

If Madrid were to lose Lunin, they are rumored to be interested in signing Porto and Portugal ace Diogo Costa as a top-class replacement.
