Liverpool in discussion to sign Bayern Munich ace Kimmich as the Reds get Joshua Kimmich transfer confirmation…
Liverpool is negotiating to bring Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich on board, having received confirmation about the transfer
Liverpool is reportedly engaged in talks to acquire Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, according to German journalist Tobi Altschaffl.
Since joining Bayern from VfB Stuttgart in 2015, the 29-year-old has become one of the premier midfielders globally, contributing to his team’s success in every major tournament over the past decade.
Kimmich has also been instrumental for the German national team. However, recent months have seen increasing speculation about his future, particularly as his current contract at the Allianz Arena is set to expire at the end of the season.
Altschaffl noted on X that Liverpool is exploring the possibility of signing Kimmich, aiming to capitalize on his current contract situation and may soon make a formal offer.
While Manchester City has shown interest, Kimmich is not a top priority for them as they seek younger talent to enhance their midfield.
Despite this, the journalist indicates that Kimmich is taking his time to consider his options, with the most probable outcome being an extension of his contract with Bayern Munich.
Liverpool had previously signed Wataru Endo to strengthen their holding midfield role after missing out on several preferred candidates.
Endo featured regularly under Jurgen Klopp last season but has seen less action under new manager Arne Slot.
Currently, Ryan Gravenberch has been utilized in the No.6 role for most of the season.
Slot had initially sought to recruit a new defensive midfielder last summer, with Martin Zubimendi as his main target, but the player opted to remain at Real Sociedad.
Kimmich’s experience and skill set make him an ideal fit for the possession-oriented style favored by the Dutch manager.
He would represent a wise addition for Liverpool should they decide to sign him. It will be intriguing to observe if the Merseyside club ultimately takes definitive steps to obtain his services.
In the meantime, following their victory over LOSC Lille, which confirmed their advancement to the Champions League round of 16, Slot’s team is set to compete against Ipswich Town in the Premier League next weekend.
