Following the recent appointment of Michael Edwards at Liverpool, FSG and the club are already focusing on potential summer signings. Edwards, the returning CEO of Football, aims to continue his successful work at Anfield.

FSG successfully secured Edwards after negotiations, despite initial hesitations from the 44-year-old. With the reins of Liverpool 2.0 in his hands, the architect of Jurgen Klopp’s Champions League-winning team is back at the Merseyside club.

Edwards’ initial step will involve appointing a new sporting director, and it appears increasingly probable that Richard Hughes will fill the role, as he is expected to leave Bournemouth at the conclusion of the season. Subsequently, the focus will shift towards identifying Klopp’s successor, whether it be Xabi Alonso or another candidate.

Recent reports strongly suggest Alonso’s appointment, with purported contact established and an offer extended to the Bayer Leverkusen manager. Amidst the impending off-field decisions at Anfield in the coming months, speculation has already arisen regarding potential reinforcements on the field.

As per Gazzetta Dello Sport via TeamTalk, Liverpool have initiated discussions with Atalanta regarding Teun Koopmeiners, who is rumored to be available for €60m (£51m) this summer. Following a midfield revamp last summer, it appears that the Reds are now aiming to secure the Atalanta star as the final piece of the puzzle.

The deal could be further enhanced by Manchester United’s reported interest, potentially allowing Liverpool to outmaneuver their rivals. With Edwards leading the way, those at Anfield could excel in the transfer market like never before.

Alonso could utilize the versatile skills of Koopmeiners. Throughout Liverpool’s recent injury crisis, the importance of versatility has been highlighted, with Joe Gomez filling in admirably in various positions.

The Reds are now looking to capitalize on Koopmeiners’ ability to play as a defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, and even as a centre-back. This flexibility would be a significant asset for the team, especially under the guidance of a new manager.

If Alonso takes charge at Anfield, Koopmeiners may find himself in an attacking midfield role to fit into the Spaniard’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, similar to the successful setup at Leverkusen.
