Liverpool’s transfer strategy for the summer of 2025 includes three top priorities, among which is Martin Zubimendi.
As Liverpool looks ahead to the summer transfer window in 2025, the club has three main priorities, including the signing of Martin Zubimendi.
Although the 2024-25 season is still in its early stages, Liverpool is proactively strategizing for the future and pinpointing areas within the squad that may require enhancement.
It seems like a long time ago, but the club’s last transfer window concluded with considerable dissatisfaction among fans regarding the limited number of signings.
The Reds managed to secure only one new player—excluding Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was immediately loaned back to Valencia—while Federico Chiesa has played less than 100 minutes since joining.
Liverpool’s impressive performances and winning streak have since shifted focus away from these concerns, but it remains uncertain whether the team will face challenges due to insufficient squad depth as the season progresses.
Despite the early stage of the current season, Liverpool is already looking ahead and is reportedly considering new acquisitions for center-back, left-back, and central midfield positions in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to The Athletic, a new defender may be pursued if Joe Gomez departs Anfield.
Gomez attracted interest from other Premier League teams over the summer but ultimately stayed with Liverpool, where he has only started two matches under Arne Slot.
Additionally, the need for a new left-back is being evaluated, particularly in light of Andy Robertson’s decline in form this season.
Slot has been alternating between Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas at left-back, providing both players with ample playing time.
With Robertson at 30 and Tsimikas set to reach the same age by the end of next season, it is reasonable for Liverpool to explore options in this position.
Lastly, Liverpool had shown interest in acquiring Martin Zubimendi last summer.
While Ryan Gravenberch has performed admirably in the role designated for Zubimendi in Slot’s setup, the team could benefit from additional depth in midfield.
Wataru Endo, approaching his 33rd birthday by the conclusion of the next season, may consider departing due to limited playing opportunities.
This would result in Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, and the more offensively inclined Harvey Elliott being the sole experienced midfielders in Liverpool’s lineup.
Reports suggest that Liverpool continues to hold a strong interest in Zubimendi, indicating that the club might reignite their pursuit of the Real Sociedad midfielder.
