Liverpool received a significant fitness boost as Arne Slot announced positive news ahead of the upcoming clash with Chelsea.
Alexis Mac Allister has returned to action, providing Liverpool with a much-needed boost before their Premier League match against Chelsea.
He played over an hour in Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, having started the 6-0 victory in Buenos Aires early Wednesday morning UK time.
Previously, Mac Allister was unable to participate in the 1-1 draw against Venezuela due to a muscle injury that had sidelined him since halftime during Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace earlier this month.
With his return, it appears Mac Allister will be available for selection for the match against Chelsea on Sunday, as the Reds aim to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League table.
In other South American news, Luis Diaz scored in Colombia’s impressive 4-0 victory over Chile in his hometown of Barranquilla.
The match also celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Colombian Football Federation, where Diaz was referred to as “a prophet in the land that saw him grow as a player” by El Colombiano.
Conversely, Darwin Nunez did not manage to score in Uruguay’s goalless draw with Ecuador, although his performance was positively received, with El Pais rating only one player higher.
They noted that Nunez, who struck the woodwork, was “one of the most notable” players on the field.
Despite this, the Uruguayan team faced jeers from their home supporters, as they have yet to score in any of their four World Cup qualifiers this season.
Earlier on Tuesday, Wataru Endo was unable to play in Japan’s 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with Australia due to illness.
In the UEFA Nations League, Conor Bradley had the opportunity to lead Northern Ireland as captain in his first home match, where they achieved a commanding 5-0 victory over Bulgaria.
Meanwhile, Andy Robertson captained Scotland in a goalless draw against Portugal at home, with Ben Doak, currently on loan at Middlesbrough, participating for 67 minutes. Diogo Jota started for Portugal but was substituted shortly after the 60-minute mark.
In a significant match, Jarell Quansah was in the starting lineup, and Tyler Morton came off the bench as England secured their qualification for next summer’s UEFA Under-21 European Championships with a resounding 7-0 win over Azerbaijan at Bristol City’s Ashton Gate.
Calvin Ramsay, who is on loan at Wigan Athletic, did not see action for the Scotland U21s during their 3-2 loss in Kazakhstan.
Focusing on Liverpool Academy players, Amara Nallo contributed to England U19s’ 4-2 victory over France in Marbella, while Keyrol Figueroa was a substitute for the USA U19s in their 3-2 friendly win against Japan.
Additionally, Trent Kone-Doherty provided an assist that helped the Republic of Ireland U19s secure a 2-0 win over Mexico, clinching a friendly tournament title in Croatia.
Kyle Kelly also started for St Kitts and Nevis in their 1-1 draw against the Cayman Islands in the Concacaf Nations League.
