Liverpool faces another injury challenge as Arne Slot’s key player is sidelined longer than anticipated.
Liverpool encounters a fresh injury setback, with Arne Slot’s key player sidelined for an extended duration beyond what was expected.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot is dealing with additional injury concerns ahead of the match against Aston Villa.
Diogo Jota is in jeopardy of missing crucial upcoming fixtures at Anfield against Real Madrid and Manchester City due to persistent fitness problems.
The forward has been unavailable since sustaining an upper-body injury on October 20, when he was struck by Chelsea’s Tosin Adarabioyo during a Premier League match.
While a return was initially anticipated following the international break, with Liverpool scheduled to play Southampton on November 24, followed by encounters with Real Madrid and City, Jota’s recovery now appears to be postponed until December.
This delay could impact matches against Newcastle United and Everton. “We expect him back after the international break,” Slot remarked on Friday.
“Now, after the international break, there are six or seven months left in the season!” He further stated, “He will return one or two weeks after the international break.”
In Jota’s absence, Slot has been adjusting his attacking strategy, featuring Darwin Nunez, who netted a goal in the Champions League victory over RB Leipzig, and Luis Diaz, who scored a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen.
He also opted for a formation without a traditional striker in the League Cup win at Brighton.
Diaz took on a more central position during the Leverkusen match, leaving several tactical options for Slot to consider against Aston Villa.
Their opponents are expected to make changes following their Champions League loss to Club Brugge.
Tyrone Mings, who committed a significant error by handling the ball in the penalty area, is likely to be replaced by Pau Torres.
