Liverpool expresses interest in impressive Brazilian midfielder as Fabrizio Romano discloses top two Slot candidates…
Liverpool have made an official approach for an exceptional Brazilian midfielder, as confirmed by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, who has also disclosed the top two targets for the Slot position.
Liverpool have initiated talks with Atalanta regarding the acquisition of Brazilian midfielder Ederson, who has expressed interest in a potential move to the Premier League.
Fabrizio Romano has also disclosed the top two targets for Arne Slot this summer.
The Reds are gearing up for a promising new chapter at Anfield, with Slot set to take over from Jurgen Klopp once he returns from his family vacation in Ibiza.
The Dutch manager is wisely taking some time off before diving into what promises to be a busy summer and season as he looks to build on the success of his predecessor.
Although Slot is scheduled to officially start his role at the Kirkby training base next week, he has already engaged in discussions with the club’s football CEO Michael Edwards and incoming sporting director Richard Hughes regarding their transfer priorities for the upcoming season.
Slot, who was selected by Edwards as the new manager, shares a similar tactical approach and man-management style with Klopp.
It is believed that Slot has identified two positions that he would like to strengthen during the summer transfer window.
Firstly, Slot has expressed his desire to sign a new No 6 player who can serve as a long-term replacement for Fabinho, who left in the summer of 2023.
Although Liverpool already has Wataru Endo as an option in that position, Slot is looking for a younger player who can provide a more long-term solution.
In addition, the Reds boss is also interested in signing a left-sided central defender. Furthermore, if the right opportunity arises and either Luis Diaz or Mo Salah, although less likely, departs, a new attacker could also be targeted.

Nevertheless, acquiring a new defensive midfielder is a top priority for Liverpool, considering the departure of Thiago Alcantara at the end of his contract. Recent reports have linked the club with players like Morten Hjulmand and Joao Neves.
However, the high release clauses of €80m and €120m respectively for these players make any potential deal challenging.
On the other hand, convincing Atalanta to part ways with Ederson would require a more reasonable sum, despite the player’s impressive performances during Atalanta’s successful Europa League campaign and his recent international debut for Brazil.
Fabrizio Romano, a reliable source, has now confirmed that Liverpool has approached Ederson as one of the potential options they are considering.
The situation regarding the links between the Atalanta midfielder and Liverpool has been addressed.
Liverpool did make contact with the player’s agents several weeks ago, but no negotiations have commenced and no bids have been sent thus far. As of now, there are no ongoing talks between the two parties.
The Italian source mentioned that it is still too early to determine whether Ederson will be included in Liverpool’s shortlist or not.
The situation remains unchanged at this point. Additionally, Atalanta is reluctant to lose both Ederson and Teun Koopmeiners.
Ederson’s tactical flexibility is worth noting, as he can play as a 6, 8, or 10. This versatility could be valuable for Liverpool if they decide to pursue a deal.
Furthermore, Romano has confirmed that Liverpool has prioritized this transfer. In response to the speculation surrounding a potential move to Anfield, Ederson has expressed his contentment at Atalanta and stated that his focus is currently on Brazil.
However, he playfully remarked, “I have a fondness for Italy, but I’m also intrigued by the Premier League. The only way I would consider leaving is if Atalanta receives a proposal and then… they make the decision, it’s up to Atalanta…”
When discussing Liverpool’s approach to the transfer market this summer, Romano emphasizes that their top priority will actually be in the center-back position.
Following Joel Matip’s departure, there is a gap in their defensive line. While the talented Jarrel Quansah has showcased his abilities this season, Liverpool is actively searching for a left-sided center-back, as Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez both prefer the right side of central defense.
Considering that Virgil van Dijk will also be turning 33 next month and contract negotiations are currently on hold, Romano firmly believes that Liverpool will heavily focus on acquiring a new center-back this summer.
Liverpool’s main focus is on securing a new centre-back, according to his Daily Briefing podcast.
Additionally, they are considering offensive additions, with Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio being potential targets.
