Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has acknowledged that the injuries sustained by Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey have dealt a significant blow to the team. Timber has been sidelined since his Premier League debut due to an ACL injury, while Partey is still several weeks away from recovering from a thigh problem. Despite this setback, Arteta remains hopeful for their return and is pleased with Timber’s progress on the grass towards full recovery.
Mikel Arteta expressed his disappointment over the injuries sustained by Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey, as their absence has hindered Arsenal’s ability to play in an “unpredictable” manner.
Timber, who was acquired from Ajax for a fee of £38.5 million during the summer, showcased his talent during the pre-season but unfortunately injured his knee in the first Premier League match of the season.
The 22-year-old was brought in not only for his versatility in defense but also for his ability to seamlessly transition into midfield from the right-back position, similar to how Oleksandr Zinchenko operates from the left.
Thomas Partey’s injury has undoubtedly been a significant setback for Arsenal this season. From the very beginning, it was evident what he would bring to the team – versatility, quality, leadership, and an added dimension to our backline. Losing him has been a huge blow.
Not only did we have plans to make him an integral part of our team, but we also wanted to enhance our playing style by incorporating his versatility and unpredictability. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to fully utilize his abilities on the field as much as we had hoped.
Despite being at the top of the Premier League on Christmas Day, Arsenal’s recent form has taken a hit with consecutive defeats. Currently sitting in fourth place, we are five points behind league leaders Liverpool. However, we remain optimistic as we prepare to face them in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
When asked if Timber’s return would alter our approach this season, Arteta responded with a resounding “Yes.” His presence will undoubtedly have an impact on the way we play, and we eagerly await his return to the field.
We witnessed a small portion of it. He was solely accessible during the pre-season and the initial match of the season.
