Jurgen Klopp’s potential appointment as the next England boss has generated a lot of excitement and anticipation. – Ornstein’s latest update…
Jurgen Klopp is being considered as a potential successor to Gareth Southgate as the next England manager, with two prominent figures discussing the possibility.
Two prominent figures have raised the possibility of Jurgen Klopp succeeding Gareth Southgate as the next England manager, with trusted reporter David Ornstein providing a significant update on the Liverpool legend’s chances of taking the job.
The FA finds itself in search of a new coach for the first time in nearly eight years following Southgate’s departure announcement on Tuesday morning.
Despite leading England to two major finals and a World Cup semi-final, the 53-year-old was encouraged by the FA to continue for another two years.
However, Southgate decided it was time to step down and allow a fresh face to lead the team, despite his success in reviving the national team’s fortunes since 2016.
Regular followers of TEAMtalk would not have been surprised by the news, as we have consistently mentioned that Gareth Southgate’s tenure was coming to an end regardless of Euro 2024’s outcome.
Southgate himself acknowledged this in an upfront interview before the tournament in Germany.
Despite making it to a second consecutive final, Southgate has faced backlash for his cautious strategies and favoritism towards certain players, leading to a wave of criticism.
However, the former Middlesbrough manager will not be short of opportunities, as he has already received a new job offer.
The search for his replacement has begun, with reliable sources indicating that Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is a top contender on the FA’s list.
It is understood that Howe has long harbored aspirations to lead the national team, and the timing could be opportune now that the individuals who brought him to Newcastle, Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, are set to sell their shares and depart the club.
Newcastle is reportedly aware of the Football Association’s interest in approaching Howe for the role.
Nevertheless, some believe that the FA should aim for a more high-profile candidate.
Given Klopp’s recent departure from Liverpool after nearly a decade at the helm, there is already significant demand for his managerial services.
Two notable figures have already expressed their support for the idea of him taking over as the next manager of the England national team, with Gary Lineker at the forefront.
“Southgate was the right choice to unite the nation, but perhaps it’s time for someone else with a more modern, attacking approach to football,” Lineker stated on The Rest is Football.
“I believe that success in the game now requires a more offensive mindset.”
“When considering English candidates, there’s really only Eddie Howe.
If Gareth decides to step down, which I think he might, given how demanding and challenging the role is, who else could step in?
Perhaps someone like Frank Lampard, who would command respect. However, wouldn’t it be worth going all in for Jurgen Klopp?”
Hamann is of the opinion that England may consider waiting for the Liverpool legend.
His BBC colleague Micah Richards then praised Pep Guardiola’s qualifications, although Lineker was prompt to point out that, considering Guardiola’s ongoing contract with City, pursuing the German coach would be a more logical choice for the FA.
On the other hand, former Liverpool player Dietmar Hamann firmly believes that the FA will reach out to Klopp and would be willing to be patient in order to secure him, especially since Klopp plans to take a break after leaving Anfield.
“Jurgen Klopp intends to take a year off and the German national team manager position is filled, but I am confident that England will approach Klopp after the tournament concludes,” Hamann stated.
“I believe many people would be thrilled if he were to lead the national team.”
He mentioned that he plans to take a break, so perhaps we can consider waiting for six months or even until next summer for him to return.
There are some conditions to be met, but England has always been quite comfortable with meeting requirements.
It is likely that he will be approached to see if he is interested, and then the decision will be up to him whether he accepts the offer or not.
Thomas Tuchel might also be a potential candidate. In the past, it would have been difficult to imagine a German manager in England, but the chances have never been higher than they are now in the coming months.
With a plethora of trophies won during his time as Liverpool boss and an impressive win percentage of 60.90% in 491 matches, Klopp’s appointment has garnered significant support from England supporters.
Many believe that the quality of players available makes the nation strong contenders to win the 2026 World Cup and end 60 years of disappointment.
David Ornstein shares significant development regarding Klopp’s potential move to England.
After leaving Liverpool and spending time at his lavish Majorcan villa in Santa Ponsa, Klopp has been making the most of his freedom.
He has been seen at various events, such as the Champions League final, the Euro 2024 final, and the ATP Mallorca tennis final. He even made a return to Anfield for this summer’s Taylor Swift concert.
Due to his commitment to taking a long break to rejuvenate, respected journalist Ornstein is unsure if the FA’s attempt to recruit him will be fruitful.
Jurgen Klopp has already turned down an offer from the USA to discuss the possibility of becoming their manager for the 2026 World Cup, according to Ornstein on Sky Sports’ Back Pages Today.
Klopp’s representatives have also confirmed his intention to take a break, as he mentioned upon leaving Liverpool.
It seems unlikely that England will have a strong chance unless Klopp changes his plans soon.
If there is a possibility of securing Klopp as their manager and he is interested, then perhaps they would be willing to wait. This could be a crucial factor to consider.
