Jurgen Klopp asserts his belief in Trent Alexander-Arnold following the emergence of Conor Bradley at Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp has urged Trent Alexander-Arnold to maintain his upward trajectory on the Liverpool appearance list following his milestone 300th appearance in Wednesday’s impressive 4-1 victory against Chelsea.
The Liverpool manager is confident that the 25-year-old defender has the potential to surpass this achievement and potentially triple his appearances if he remains committed to the club throughout his entire career.
Alexander-Arnold, with less than 18 months remaining on his current contract, was out of action for nearly a month following a knee injury during the 2-0 victory against Arsenal in early January.
However, he made a comeback as a substitute in the 5-1 FA Cup win over Norwich on Sunday, and later achieved the milestone of 300 appearances on Wednesday night as a substitute.
The defender, who hails from West Derby, is expected to be included in the lineup when Arsenal is visited again on Sunday. However, Klopp faces a pleasant dilemma at right-back due to the impressive performances of 20-year-old Conor Bradley, who gained widespread recognition for his display against Chelsea.
Klopp, however, is confident that Alexander-Arnold – currently ranked 63rd on Liverpool’s all-time list, eight positions behind former captain Jamie Redknapp – has the potential to double his current tally for the club. This challenge was set by Klopp, who handed Alexander-Arnold his senior debut in 2016.
“At just 25 years old, he has already played 300 games? Impressive! James Milner must be feeling the pressure,” Klopp remarked. “Can Trent achieve double that number? I certainly believe so. In fact, I am certain.
He possesses all the qualities required for such an achievement. Of course, luck with injuries also plays a part in reaching such a milestone. Being present is one thing, but being on the field is another.”
In the upcoming decade, there is a possibility of witnessing an additional 600 appearances, resulting in a staggering total of 900 games.
This remarkable feat is truly impressive and comparable to the prolific goal-scoring record of Cristiano Ronaldo. I hold a strong belief in the potential for success and offer my sincere wishes for him to overcome any obstacles that may arise.
His determination and talent will undoubtedly guide him towards triumph.
