Darwin Nunez reveals the emotional toll of Liverpool unhappiness and the negativity on social media.
Darwin Nunez opens up about struggles with social media backlash amidst Liverpool challenges
In the wake of a difficult season, Darwin Nunez has admitted that the negative comments on social media have affected him.
The Liverpool forward ended the season on the bench, having scored only one goal in over two months.
Nunez recently deleted all references to Liverpool from his social media accounts, sparking rumors of a potential transfer. Following some below-par performances, he faced criticism from fans and subsequently blocked several Liverpool supporter accounts.
After the recent win against Spurs, fans noticed that he walked straight off the pitch without acknowledging the crowd. Additionally, he did not applaud departing manager Jurgen Klopp during the guard of honour against Wolves on Sunday.
Darwin Nunez acknowledges that negative comments used to affect him, but now he chooses to ignore them as they hold no value for him.
He focuses on proving his critics wrong and relies on his family for support during tough times. Nunez emphasizes that dwelling on past performances or comments is unproductive, and he believes in seeking redemption through future success.
In the past, I used to pay a lot of attention to those comments, and it had a significant impact on me. Anyone who claims that negative comments don’t affect them is simply not being truthful. Negative comments directed towards you will always have an impact. However, I have now chosen to disregard those comments as they hold no value for me.
I refrain from focusing on anything, including positive aspects. If a game doesn’t go well for me, I find solace in my family’s support. Whatever occurred during the game is in the past, it has already happened, and there is always an opportunity for redemption.
“I don’t focus on any comments, whether positive or negative. When a game doesn’t go well, I turn to my family for support. The past is in the past, and there is always a chance for redemption.”
Nunez’s performance this season has been quite disappointing, managing to score only 18 goals in his 54 appearances. To make matters worse, he only scored once in his last 13 matches of the season. As a result, he was only given the opportunity to start in one of Liverpool’s last seven matches.
His exclusion from Klopp’s starting lineup was a consequence of his inability to convert several excellent goal-scoring opportunities during the final two months of the season, which ultimately led to Liverpool’s championship challenge falling apart.
Despite his struggles towards the end of the season, Núñez will have a fresh start this summer and is expected to play a significant role in Slot’s plans.
Many Liverpool supporters believe that he possesses great talent, but in order to progress, he needs to work on improving his form.
